Around the NHL 2024/25

So Pietrangelo is the first player to drop out of the 4 Nations. Do you think internally the Jets would like Josh Morrissey to sit this one out, the way he's taken some lumps along the way this season?

I wonder what the penalty is if a player that is picked to play, just says no, I'm not going, yet they are technically healthy?

Can't be more than the fine Kucherov got for not trying at the All Star game.

I just wonder what pressure there is on the players. This is the tune up for next year's Olympic team. Maybe you click with somebody there and it catches the management's eyes. But I don't think Don Sweeney is running the Canadian Olympic hockey team next year, I sure to God hope not.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are some teams that are very apprehensive about losing players that are already hurt, in a meaningless midseason media driven tournament, putting some pressure on their guys to sit for 2 weeks and heal up.

Scott Arniel talked about the break being vital to the team this year to manage energy levels and injuries. And I am sure a lot teams feel that way.

Still have a hard time gauging how competitive the hockey will be. Maybe it's glorified firewagon ASG hockey, pond hockey, no hitting, no intensity.

We will find out once the games start. My guess, it starts like "normal" hockey until someone hits someone not to hurt them, but just to lay them out...and then the players will be telling each other to back down. All I know is I'll be laughing at the people that pay big money to watch this in person.

Ya i can't see players going all out for this. Do you want to lift the 4 Nations cup , if they have 1 or lift the Stanley cup ?

4nations should be a preseason tournament in new markets

This is a good idea.

You want a break in hockey, have a full week without games.

Hell, do a prospect tournament during that week, where 1 prospect from each AHL team suits up and plays east vs. west. It's still something to be interested in and you don't have to worry about NHL injuries. Sure, AHL might suffer, but better than the alternative.
