It was one of their 6 promotional giveaway games which are: rally towel, camo fanny pack, toy block set, Ring of Honor pin, hat and bobblehead.

10/10 vs TOR: Home Opener
“All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative rally towel courtesy of Citizens”

11/10 vs SJS: Military Appreciation Night
“The first 9,000 fans in attendance will receive camo military bags courtesy of Prudential Financial”

1/18 vs PHI: Next Generation Weekend
“The first 9,000 fans in attendance on Saturday will receive an Ondrej Palat toy block set courtesy of RWJBarnabas Health”

1/22 vs BOS: Ring of Honor
“All fans in attendance will receive a limited-edition Ring of Honor pin courtesy of Citizens”

3/22 vs OTT: Mascot Madness
“The first 9,000 fans in attendance will receive an NJ Devil hat courtesy of MSG Networks”

4/16 vs DET: Made in NJ Night (last home game)
“The first 9,000 fans in attendance will receive a Jacob Markstrom bobblehead.”
Then that would explain it.

The Anaheim home game 2 weeks prior only had 14344, against another Pacific division bottom feeder. I had to look that up.

I think a team like the Sharks or Ducks on a weeknight and with no promotions would probably draw less than a weekend game/promotional game.

I'm thinking more people will come to a weekend game just because a lot of people don't have enough time after work to make it to Newark on time for puck drop on work nights. Although maybe football season also plays into that. I guess if one of the two local teams has a 4:00 PM game on a Sunday that could cost them a few heads on a Sunday night game against a weak opponent from the Western Conference.

Eh I doubt a Camo military bag is really bringing people out. It was just a weekend night home game with no local NFL game conflicting with it. I always look at Sunday night games as glorified weeknight games (though it's obviously more convenient for many others) because you still have to get home and go to work the next day anyway, except you don't have the traffic issues going into Newark then that you do on a normal weeknight game.

Not to mention we were in a road-heavy stretch, not like we had three games in five days at the Rock - only two home games between October 28 and tonight.

I always LOVED a sunday night or early night game. i get with nfl and all that but honestly the local teams suck and have been sucking a long time if im the devils load up on sunday 5pm games. its the best of both worlds late enough start and its a quiet travel day with traffic. as proof fans will show up even against a bottom feeding west coast team

Of course the capitals win again. Team didn't have to rebuild what so ever and got better.

Yea, this team will have two losses coming up and be at the bottom of the standings in regards to teams fighting for a playoff spot.

Ovechkin out for 4-6 weeks.

Ovechkin’s injury as he approaches the record is definitely shades of when Marty got injured on his way to the wins record that year. He still got the record that year, but it was prolonged to the end of the season because of the injury early in the year and him being out for over 3 months.

It looked like he was gonna wrap this up at the end of the year, barring a massive cool down.

Sounds like he might be looking at early next year for the record now.

I wanna know what brilliant mind made the decision to make Joe Thornton’s number retirement game against Buffalo.

The Sharks have one of their worst records all time against the Sabres. Maybe their worst all time record.

I think have 14 wins over the Sabres in 50 all time meetings?

I remember there was one time where they had one win in like 20+ years against them in Buffalo.

Between their inaugural season in 1991 and 2014 they had one win in SEVENTEEN games against them in Buffalo lol. Not even one tie I don’t think! And finally another in 2015 and they’re now 4-17-4 there.

Their home record against them is a little less bad, but still not very good.

Maybe because they don’t expect to win much they don’t care what team they schedule it against because they’re probably gonna lose anyway?

I didn’t realize that John Hynes was coaching in Minnesota or that they were playing .760 hockey. Stranger things have happened, I guess.
I'm surprised they've been that good with that kind of a roster. It doesn't look very strong.

But I guess somebody in that division has to overachieve to compensate for Colorado being meh and Nashville's disaster of a season so far.

Like I said in the GDT Hynes always has his best seasons with the scrappy overachiever of a roster.
