Dustin Wolf looks good for Calgary. Watching the Islanders play them and he's made a few good saves. His stats this season are very very good so far. Would of been crazy if Fitz got him out of Calgary but that would of costed a ton. I'm not even sure what Calgary would take for him without us moving something bizarre like Nemec or something.
Don't buy 9 game sample sizes of goalies.

The Hockey Guy brought up a good point today: why isn't Don Sweeney on the hot seat?
It takes a lot more than one meh start to a season to off a successful GM in the NHL. I know he took over a good team and hasn’t won a Cup but they’ve been 100-point caliber every year and he’s been running it a decade.

Zacha has three years left and some trade protection. I doubt he’s going anywhere this season. Boston has a decent number of expiring deals they will try to move first but they just fired thr coach and will give that time to play out before they sell at the deadline.

I don't see any reason to fire Sweeney or to even think about it. He's fine. He's not a miracle worker - he had Chara, Bergeron, and Krejci on ridiculously cheap contracts for most of his tenure, and of course he can't replace those guys.

The thing is that I can't imagine the Bruins ever committing to a full rebuild - they haven't missed the playoffs 3 straight years since the 60s. They're also not in a good position to do that because Pastrnak, McAvoy, and Swayman are stars in their prime.

Not even a record. All of the 2022 nominees were fired within a year.

Excluding last year’s finalist, the only coach who was a finalist for the Jack Adam’s since 2020 still with their team is Rod Brindamour.
A function of this award generally being given to whatever coaches had a shitty roster that got bailed out by goaltending.

His numbers in the AHL were elite every year and he’s only 23 years old.

It’s not like it’s a 9 game sample of some veteran Hamburglar guy or goalie who has been in the league for years to mediocre results.

Remember, they did fire Chiarelli only 4 years after a cup, 2 years after a finals appearance and in their first playoff miss since Chiarelli’s first year there. And it was the same ownership and Cam Neely is still POHOPS and was back then. I can see a situation where he goes or possibly both just over the single playoff miss.

Interesting from the main board. Devils down 2.7%.

I'm assuming partly lag effect (bad year last year, takes time to re-build enthusiasm) coupled with deep run for the Yanks.

Does this factor in the "home" game we had in Europe? EDIT: Attendance for that game was 16,722 which probably doesn't impact this years attendance much.

But also, does the comparison to last year include the outdoor "home" game we had last year with an attendance of +70,000?

Haula has 1 point in his last 9 games and is still outscoring Zacha on the season, 9 to 7.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that not only does Zacha play nearly 4 more minutes a night than Haula, his most common linemate is still Pastrnak while Haula's is Paul Cotter.

I make this trade over and over again, and I still have love for Pav.

I think we've still sold out most of our games and the actual number decline is only a couple hundred.

Good point on the outdoor game.

We seem to be well past the point of looking at a ton of empty seats at the Rock.

Would like to see what a sustained stretch of winning would do(as well as the continued improvement in the surrounding area of Newark), but I think we are a pretty good situation in terms of attendance currently.

We also played the Rangers and Caps a second time the first 20 last year, given the small sample I’d imagine switching local teams for basement dwelling CA teams explains all of it.

I mean we also stunk really bad last year. We made moves over this offseason but the casual ticket buyer may not be aware of them. Seems like the simplest answer.

I'm a little surprised, as even the most recent home game against the Sharks was a sell out (16514 is current listed capacity for hockey?) and I thought maybe that one would be like 12149 or something when I just went to look it up.

I'm surprised that many people wanted to come and see the Sharks. Obviously a lot of excitement about Celebrini and many fans excited to see Blackwood.

Wonder if Nashville would swap out Brunette and bring in Montgomery. Seems like it would be a clear upgrade.
I was thinking Detroit, but only because they have a coach that's been there longer and I'd think they'd want to do better this year, despite the fact that they have a patchwork roster to go with their kids.

I feel like Brunette is probably safe the remainder of the year, unless the wheels really come off. If they're 8-10 games below NHL 500 then Brunette is probably done then. If not then I'd just think it will happen after the year ends.
