LOL I was about to post the MacTavish vs Harvey video.
Mick E. Moose? No wonder nobody wants to play in Winnipeg.

During the playoffs I had noticed Florida changed their mascot to Viktor E. Ratt lolSeriously though, all the players are leaving because of the low rent mascot.

Craig MacTavish agrees, Harvey sucks.

“Lawyerly approach” is one way to describe it.I going to have to agree with the league on the warmup jersey situation.
1). Jersey’s will still be signed and sold for charities.
2) The organizations will still host various themed nights.
Bettman and the league can not force players into celebrating something that is against their views. The players started to publicly speak out against “pride night”, which undermines the organizations beliefs. There was good intentions in the warmup jersey but it also created a platform for players to protest, which was terrible PR.
The only way to take away the platform to speak out is to not provide it. I get why people are mad, but Bettman and the league take the lawyerly approach most of the time.

You had to know the league would take the path of least resistance. This isn't sweeping the trash under the rug, it's burning the trash in the backyard after burying it under a pile of dead leaves so they could pretend it never existed in the first place. The real problem though was the teams letting themselves be led by one or two guys on the roster. Didn't several teams skip the warmup jerseys once the Provovov incident? The media has to bear some of the blame as well. If a team wanted to host a Pride night and give the players the option to wear the warmup jerseys and one or two chose to skip it, that's on those players. It's disappointing but it would be their right to be a hater. The ongoing coverage of the issue in the way it was sensationalized highlighted the division it caused rather than focusing on the purpose of the program. Just poorly handled on multiple levels.“Lawyerly approach” is one way to describe it.
The league doesn’t force anyone to do anything.
Having Pride nights is an individual team decision, that’s why not every team has them.
And how the players take part has always been up to the players collectively on that team. That’s why some have had pre-game jerseys, some had just had pre-game taped sticks and some didn’t do anything.
That was the first time the Flyers had worn jerseys, they had only did tape before, which was optional (and Provorov had never used).
I guess the other players thought he might just go with it, I guess they tried to get him to roll with and he didn’t.
The other players also hoped the focus would could be on the rest of the team’s enthusiastic support of the message. That’s the problem here.
Everyone is acting like this handwringing is the end of the world when it’s not. It doesn’t even f***ing matter and it’s not worth losing the moments of genuine heartfelt public support people can get from players in these events.
Bettman’s approach is akin to sweeping rotting trash under a rug in your living room. Sure, it will look less messy at first glance but it doesn’t mean it’s the right choice.

Yeah, they have two co-mascots.

Stanley C Panther’s First Game:

Viktor E. Ratt’s First Game:
October 11, 2014 at BB&T Center
Seriously, any list of best mascots that doesn't have Gritty as #1, 2, and 3 is simply wrong.

What a weird list considering Detroit doesn't actually have a costumed mascot and there's no way Hunter and Chance don't belong right above Harvey the Hound lol
Stanley was still in Florida too for the playoffs, they have had him and Viktor for a bit now lol
Montreal actually made a reverse retro mascot this year named METAL! lol...
this is nonsense. The league catered to the minority and made the wrong decision. Whenever they are faced with these types of situations, they almost always make the wrong decision. Its a theme with the league tbh.
The problem is the minority was getting all the attention, and derailing pride night anyway. If you want to blame the league for anything it's in not 'mandating' it to begin with the way they do with military night and their other crap. Once you had people and teams refusing to do it and no consequences other than a few angry columns and Tweets directed toward them, the horse was out of the barn.this is nonsense. I wonder if the PA got involved with the jersey thing and thats why the rule was made.
They were probably mad about the negative press response toward members for not participating in optional events.
it's likely a collective decision between the owners and PA I would say. As you state, it looks bad for the players, but the team gets flack for employing said players. In some situations those players may find themselves out of jobs over it or claim that, so the PA steps in. It also subjects teams/league to lawsuits from players in such a situation if they claim they aren't being signed due to their beliefs, like Kaepernick coming to a settlment with the NFL.But why ownership/the NHL?
They are not mandated to host these events and the negative press is on the players, not the league/team
