Adin Hill has honestly been a totally fine, average-ish NHL goalie over his career (he was bad in 21-22, but has been surprisingly ok outside of that, and you know sharks gonna shark) and he was good in the playoffs. I think it's probably like 500k-1M rich, but I think that's the tax you're paying for 2 years. They'll be out of there before 30 with him, and the other guys are happy you're taking care of the guy who got you the cup.

I’m surprised they did this with Hill.

The way Vegas operates, I figured they’d do what Colorado did to Kuemper last year. Let him walk and just go with a guy that’s a much cheaper option, which in their case is already there in Logan Thompson.

Hill will probably be okay in Vegas though. Bruce Cassidy has a penchant for making goalies play better than they are.

It’s why Rask became “Elite” again a year or two after he took over. It’s also why Halak turned back the clock to his 20’s when he got to Boston/Cassidy.

if Vegas is signing Hill for that money, they clearly don’t expect Lehner to come back any time soon. They need another goalie anyway, they probably looked at the marker and decided Hill was worth the overpay. And two years is nothing, especially if he’s still capable in that second year.

I don’t agree with Vegas extending Hill . Thompson was awesome when he wasn’t hurt . That’s a pretty big commitment to give a goalie after a small sample size plus you have a goalie like Timosin there

Yeah but thompson is cheap as hell. Hill and Thompson is like 5.6M for the next two years, that's fine.

They clearly (and correctly) view themselves as in their window right now and don't want to risk their goaltending position solely on Thompson's health when they can run a pretty good tandem for pretty cheap overall.

Thompson is signed for 2 years/767k so a 2 year/4.9m for Hill works just fine with that, 6m is a very nice price for a tandem (if it works).

Lehner’s last game was on April 6, 2022. He’s not coming back, he still rehabbing from double hip surgery and also fighting fraud charges, so he gone.

Thompson only has ~50 regular NHL starts and never played in the playoffs, he wasn’t going to be there main guy. He went on the IR twice this season.

The 1st time in early Feb after this 2/9 game at Minnesota:

He finally came back in March, without a conditioning stint in the AHL, and then left in the 3rd period of his 1st game back, a 3/23 away game at Calgary:

Thompson’s “expected to be at full health by training camp” but that was a rough end to the season.

Colorado likely couldn’t afford Kuemper. Georgiev was 1.85m cheaper and he was also 26 years 5 months old when he signed his 3 year/3.4m deal.

Kuemper could never stay healthy and was already starting to decline, I doubt there was much enthusiasm for signing a 32 year version of him to a 5 year/5.25m deal.

I would be absolutely shocked if Lehner ever plays there again. There's a pretty good chance he won't be in the NHL ever again if he misses two years in a row. I'm not sure if he's expected to miss two full seasons in a row. Francouz came back from double hip and double knee surgery and at I think a similar age. I think he was out for an entire season and a few months of the next.

There was talk months ago about Vegas buying out Lehner, but if he's not cleared then he can't be bought out, as we know from Ottawa and Matt Murray last year lol.

I'm not at all sold on Thompson. I think Hill is probably better, even if not by a whole lot.

I predicted this past season that Vegas would unload Thompson when they don't wanna pay his next contract, and he'll be sent to somewhere like Buffalo and he won't play well there at all. I think he's signed for 2 more years though.

I'm not at all sold on him. He played fine for Vegas, but would he play well on most of the teams in the league? He was in the ECHL not too long ago. I think many forgot he even played for the ECHL Devils.

It's not that big of a deal tbh, I wanted them to extend Adin Hill for a chance at Logan Thompson coming back to NJ but they have two good goalies for what, ~6M? And with Logan Thompson's injury history and who knows what the f*** is up with Robin Lehner, plus I'll echo the sentiment of Vegas players probably liking Hill being taken care of. Vegas has a lot of negative PR with just shoving guys to the curb, they need to mend some fences in that regard.

I couldn't care less about Thompson. I'd bet whatever he gets traded for (when it happens) is overpayment and I don't think he's even better than Vitek.

I can totally see him falling flat on his face in Buffalo or Ottawa or somewhere like that.

Yeah why the hell would they bother with Torrey Krug? Might as well have kept Severson for less if you’re even considering another high priced defenseman
