My guess is he stays if the Wings continue to stay in playoff contention. If they fade he was probably promised they would move him to a contender at the TDL.

Thats my thinking as well. I doubt they were on his radar had it not been for their hot start. Still dont fully understand it though. I figured he would have gone to one of the top 5 or even Dallas before Detroit.

Best guess it clearly violated a morality clause or employer practices policy and therefore they have grounds for termination.

And importantly perry and nhlpa union arent fighting it so presumably it was egregious behavior. Unsure if criminal or civil level but charges were not pressed because of a payoff? nondislosures signed? so no one can talk to principal parties.

In end it is all a guess

Don't think the penalty is bad at all, it's a cheap hit and pretty much the exact hit the NHL wants to remove from the game. Hathaway was going to drill Hughes straight in the numbers without the last second turn, which would have resulted in an even worse outcome.

Only surprising thing is that Hathaway didn't spit on Hughes once he was down on the ice.

OOOOKKKKKAAAAYYYYYYY that is just too f***ing far. Sure, I made jokes about the rumor in a group chat with some friends (even before it became a huge rumor echoed on Twitter/X). Then when it exploded online I cracked a joke here or there and shared some memes, again in a private group chat. But the media asking Bedard about it? Yikes.

This whole incident is going to have it's own chapter in some social media marketing textbook in a few years probably. Just wild how quickly people will perpetuate a rumor as fact in the absence of information from the source. Nature truly abhors a vacuum.

Someone who used to work for the team told me they weren't as interested in hosting the draft as much as the All Star game. Also mentioned to that point, the team hasn't got the chance because there isn't a central hub near the arena with hotels, restaurants, and entertainment to accommodate the influx of players, their families, and visiting fans (and their families).

I imagine the OC Vibe project as well as the renovations to the arena will change things once the former is completed.
