I will note, for the record, that I stated I would've been okay with a Risto return of 40th OV (Hoglander), Madden, and Virtanen. That would look like a tidy little return right about now.

Haha, yeah right, Botts would've traded 31 and 40 to move up and draft Ryan Johnson at 24.

So no Risto for Laine?

Pure conspiracy theory, but I actually do believe that after the Voldemort trade, people see Botterill as an easy sucker they can lowball, and since none of our assets are the “dictating the market price” kind, he’s probably just endlessly gotten lowballed since June 2018.

Not a defense of him, btw. It’s his fault for being in this position.

As soneone who works in a field that has negotiations as a main focus, this is absolutely how things are done. The savvy know the limitations of others, and the second layer, beyond factually what is being discussed, is just as important.

It reminds me of the rumors that said Murray had a hard time working out a deal for a couple high end defense men, because it was perceived by a fair amount of gms, that he was fleecing people in trades, mostly O'Reilly and the Poo platter to Winnipeg.

Whether that rumor is true or not, can anyone honestly imagine a gm making a top offer to Botts for anything, when he has a consistent record of getting worked? I bet Bowman gets a hard time from people for the Nylander trade already.

Why do I expect Monday will be a retrospective rather than any breaking news? LOL

Merely accept in your heart that 1 guy will go late Monday, probably Sheary, and that’s it.

Groundwork was laid for the summer, and the organization is interested in keeping this group together to push for the remainder of the season. I expect those lines verbatim.

Rare to get so embarrassed by the franchise before the puck drops.

He'd have just used it on another defenseman anyway.

Fire Botterill.

Just look at what Montreal got for Scandella

He got Skinner and Miller for a song apiece and turned a busting Nylander into Joker all after that trade. It's clear as day that he was under pressure to move ROR before Terry paid that bill because...Look at every other thing Botterill has done! It takes him too long to do everything but now he can close a giant trade by midnight on the one day a year it saves 7.5 million dollars? Yeah I don't think so.

None of this explains why this idiot has spent 2 full years since then not trying to replace 2C on this team. He should be fired for this alone.

But he won't be because Pegula f***ed up the RoR trade and Botterill got worked and he won't fire him because he knows it set us back greatly.

31 Thoughts: Making sense of Toffoli trade for Canucks - Sportsnet.ca

I ctrl-F'd Sabres, Botterill, and Buffalo and came up empty everywhere.

I did the same. But there's this:

10. It is rare that top-six centres become available, but Florida's
Vincent Trocheck is generating attention. Age 26, two more years at under $5 million — teams can handle that. Won’t be inexpensive. Trocheck rushed back as quickly as possible from an ankle injury last season, and there is debate about how much mobility that may have cost him. But, again, guys like him aren’t often acquirable.
