St. Louis and Brodeur (much as I hate the ****) are no brainers but Gary Bettman to the Hall of Fame? FFS.

A league with 24 teams has grown to 31; A league generating about $400 million of revenue annually pockets close to $5 billion; A league without a television deal in the United States that guaranteed every playoff game was available now has one; The average salary of a player has risen from $370,000 US to $3.2 million. For all the shit he gets, he has grown the league from a mostly national level to an international level. 3 lock outs, sure. But the NHLPA is also equally responsible for that.

Maybe the nhlpa has equal ownership of the lost season, but the last lockout was all about the league getting mad at the players for rules GMs circumvented.

I can't dispute the numbers under Bettman. He's made some mistakes along the way but point a to point b is undeniable.

Don’t let the contract intricacies distract you. The last lockout was about reducing the players share from 54 percent to 50 percent.

The average 2018 SCF game received a 2.7 rating in the US only. That's worse than the new Will and Grace which I didn't even know was on. Bettman's not that great.

That’s definitely households.

You know what? It is. Ratings are broken down by either households or demographics. Usually they're quoted as households. It's been 8 years since I worked in ad sales so I forgot that little tidbit.

Now add the number of views on platforms like NHL.tv because these weren't around in 1995. A lot of people don't even have a TV these days, yet still watch games.

Controversy aside, he's lead the league for more than 25 years.

It's more profitable that its ever been, in more markets than it's ever been, and has more mainstream awareness then ever.

When you look at the category, his resume is right up there with anyone from the last 40 years.
Just because he’s unpopular with fans doesn’t mean he isn’t popular with owners and the “old guard”
