Good, let them get the 7th or 8th pick, can't let them get #1. That'll hurt our teams for years.

We've been remarkably lucky avoiding McDavid, Matthews, Laine, Eichel in our division with two of the four out west. Avoiding Dahlin in our division would be excellent.

well said wish the devils the best of luck especially every game they play against the bottom dwellers of the western conference.

Avs had Bernier in net - apples and oranges.
Bernier was the reason why the score wasn't 7-1...watch the game, he was fantastic, had 3 save of the year candidates. We were also down Stafford Greene and Palmieri for most of the game.

Devils played very well. Bernier was the only reason it wasn't more, I'd venture to say 9 or 10 honest. Severson got robbed big and there were more pucks in the paint than I could count on my hands. They look good so far. Talent in front of Schneider and for Hynes to work with=you guys might be on a faster track to compete sooner than people expect.

Just need to shore up the D and they should be good to go.

I always thought the Devils D isn't that bad to be honest. It needs some shoring but not like say the Sabres or Avs type of projects. I was on Merrill/Gelinas hype train pretty hard. My best friend is a Devils fan so I usually am in the know and she hyped them up to me. Santini and Butcher are great pieces to start off with and Greene is still good. Get a couple of steals in the draft or swing a trade if possible they'll be great I think.

Just back from Yotes-Knights. Raanta was excellent. Stepan very quiet. Lindberg played limited minutes. VGK really lacks skill on the backend but they work very hard. Fleury looks just like he did in PGH during the glory years. They are going to be a tough game every night this year.

Ovi could not play another game this season and STILL have more goals than Hagelin did last year.

And I love Hags. I just chose his name out of the list because we can relate.

I got a bad feeling Raanta's gonna be the next Talbot, and we're gonna have an 8.5M back up by the end of the season while we let two very good NHL goalies go for way below their eventual market value because we handed out that contract.

Actually, I hope Raanta does well, I can't say that the reference to him is a bad feeling, I just don't think its going to look all too great on our GM who will have traded Talbot and Raanta.

Hank's contract is a f***ing nightmare.

Hank's contract is a ****ing nightmare.

Meh, he earned it. It sucks that its going to be one of the worst contracts in the NHL eventually (if its not already), but can you really trade the best goalie in the NHL (he was when we signed him) in a proactive move hoping that Talbot was going to be a starter? At the point Raanta was good, it was too late to trade Hank. Even if lets say Gorton traded Hank, how would the move come off with the fans? Would they be so mad that Hank was traded or would they accept that it looks like it makes sense from a hockey perspective? A new GM is getting himself fired if that trade doesn't work out, no way it was going to happen.

Only way the goaltending situation (Hank's contract, Talbot, Raanta on other teams) kind of has a silver lining is I look at it like this. We'll have about 9.5M locked up in the goalie position in a year or two, we'll have a very good NHL starter and Hank can take his retirement tour with back up minutes the last few years of his career. You can essentially flip their roles/salaries, and it'll look fine (kind of how I look at the Andersson/Chytil drafting). Now, if for some reason Shestyorkin stays in Russia (signs a new contract with SKA), we are as screwed at the goalie position as there is in the NHL.

Reading Brooks latest article, you think he would call out a couple points to be fair, but he's always going for the hot taeks

He complains that Eichel signed a massive contract, saying he makes more Crosby, Malkin, Ovi. What he fails to mention is that those contracts were all signed during the last CBA, and all of those guys would be making more than Eichel if they signed during the new CBA

Then in the next breath, he says McDavid and Matthews would be worth the contract Eichel signed because they are generational players. Matthews isn't even in the same realm as McDavid. Eichel and Matthews are in the same range.

What a clown

Nucks won their first game too - it feelsbad to be a Ranger fan this time of the year! :)

Just posted it in the other thread.

Crosby on his 2nd contract: 17.5% cap hit
Eichel: 13.3% cap hit

Brooks is an idiot.

I saw that and that's immediately what I thought too... Why is he comparing Eichel to Price's current contract (a GOALTENDER) or Crosby (who was signed in 2012-13 and the contract didn't take effect till 2013-14)? That's just stupid comparables
