the Blues are mirroring their series last year in a creepy way right now:

In the series against the Kings last year.

Game 1 - Steen OT winner
Game 2 - Jackman game winner
Game 3 - Blues outplayed the Kings but Quick pitches a shutout
Game 4 - Kings win 4-3
Game 5 - Pietrangelo scores in the third period(Schwartz primary assist) to tie the game at 2 but Los Angeles wins 3-2 in OT

This year

Game 1 - Steen OT winner
Game 2 - Jackman OT game winner
Game 3 - Blues outplayed the Hawks but Crawford pitches a shutout
Game 4 - Hawks win 4-3
Game 5 - Pietrangelo scores in the third period(Schwartz primary assist) to tie the game at 2 but Chicago wins 3-2 in OT

Home teams in the west have only lost 2 games.

Pretty simple the way I see it. If Hawks match Blues' intensity they're gonna win, they just have better players. Regular season means nothing for the Hawks.

How many coaches have been canned now after calling Ovechkin out for not playing defense?

All the coaches.

How long before he pulls a Kovalchuk and just enjoys being the king of Russia? I mean, the league already established you can do that without any issues, so why not.

I wonder if Bettman would find a way to give Washington an extra first rounder as compensation. :naughty:

Yea ovechkin is where coaches go to die. I wouldn't want anything to do with a team that has ovechkin on it if I was a coach

I don't know what you do with him. He's the best scorer in the league. He's also a liability if he's floating around looking for goals.

You have to put him on a powerhouse team to get real results. Think Brett Hull. Hull didn't get his playoff success until you surrounded him with hall of fame talent in Dallas and Detroit. But that was only possible in an era before the cap. What powerhouse can fit Ovechkin on their roster these days?

Honestly I expect Ovie to only last another year or two before bolting to Russia.

But Brett Hull changed his game as he got older and became more responsible. Hitchcock and Bowman wouldn't have put up with him otherwise. Hull says one of the proudest moments of his career was when Bowman started using him on the PK.

You wonder if Ovechkin will ever get it

I don't see Washington being complicit in a move like New Jersey was for Kovy. Plus Ovie's wife/fiance after being based for years in Moscow basically spends a predominant amount of her time in the states, if I remember right she took a Florida based coach. Ovie likes America, he says that a lot, likes going home for the summers in Russia, but I think he generally enjoys life here a little more than most people think and his goals have always been NHL dominated.

The abuse he takes from the Canadian media might help along with 15 to 20 million with only 15% tax, but ultimately I don't think he is that close to pulling the plug. Honestly if they hired Blashill, I think that thing would get on track in a hurry. If Babcock is staying and extending, as much as it would pain me to see him leave, I hope Blashill takes the Washington job, he can do great things with their talent in my opinion.

But in any event Leonsis isn't going to let Ovie walk without a huge stink and the NHL will fight this a lot differently than they did Kovy leaving a bankrupt team and pretty terrible market where the owner was trying to sell the team and the league felt they cheated the system on that contract to begin with. Pretty different scenario at play in my opinion.

A recent wyshynski post said that during OV's tenure, Wash hasnt hired a coach with NHL experience, much less cup experience. Thats gotta change.

This leads me to believe that Blash, impressive tho his resume is, wont be their guy.
