If the leafs bow out in the first round.
I don’t know how they bring Marner back next season.
With being a pending UFA I can’t see how the leafs can stay so top heavy.

I mean I hate the leafs so them keeping the status quo won’t break my heart or anything

You just gotta hope they overpay him and handicap the rest of the team eternally

I wonder who'd be interested in an 11M forward with one year left before UFA who pulls a Houdini in the playoffs every year

Plus, the NMC. So not only would the team have be ok with the above, but it would have to be a palatable destination for Mitch (maybe long term) AND have the cap space or ability to clear the cap space to fit him

Utah maybe. If they wanna model after Vegas and attempt to bolster the team with every potentially available "star" they can get their hands on...

I was going to suggest Vegas, but Marner has an inverse disappearance curve to what they want.

While you are correct on all accounts. Desperation stinks an ugly smell.
Salary retention and even taking a lesser deal while not ideal is always a possibility if you are the leafs.

Almost unheard of, there is usually at least one upset win. Guess we will see what happens tomorrow night in Dallas and Edmonton.

Yeah I think but not 100% sure if Dallas and Edmonton win that it will be the first time ever that all 8 home teams won their opening games.
