As much as I hate the Leafs let's not count them out just yet, they are going to have to play to their strengths not run around and try to hit everything in sight. They need to score and score often they can't depend on their D and you never what goalie you get so go flat out offence and hope for the best.

Oh but what if we want to count them out?

Don’t really want to mean to Leaf fans after that drubbing by the Bruins
But can’t help myself

I thought Elliot Friedman did a really good job covering this in his last 32 thoughts podcast.

Sounds like the owners will split $200 million. It also sounded like the 5 year option/pathway for Meruelo to bring the Coyotes back to Arizona would be tough for him to achieve. Lots of aggressive milestones and hurdles.

Friedman also mentioned there are many (owners) who aren’t happy with how whole Meruelo is getting in this deal but he does have leverage since the NHL wants this wrapped up quickly and they do want Smith in the club.

We’ll see where it all lands.
a billion dollars for the reactivation and a billion for the development(64 mill for bid and billion for build and development of area) cant see how AM is gonna be able to do it....

Watched the first period of the Leafs Bruins game and I get it, you have to try to establish that you aren’t going to get run out of the building but Boston can play tough and finish checks within their structured game. When Toronto was hitting it taking them out of their game and it cost them the 1st goal against.

Boston looked great and Toronto looked a bit shell shocked.

What happened to Nylander? Dude plays 82 games this season and misses game 1 of the playoffs.

Well hello stranger!! How the hell are you doing Dax?

It was the perfect case study on why grit for the sake of grit doesn't work. Reaves went for a big hit early, taking himself completely out of position and it lead to Boston getting a 2 on 1 and they never looked back.

For all I grumble about some aspects of Bones’s usage, it could be so much worse. Imagine giving Reaves a roster slot, much less one second of ice time, in this, the Year of our Lord 2024.

You know that it was bostons grit line that capitalized on that 2 on 1 right... I think those three guys combined have less points than names

Reaves is just done.

You completely missed my point. If grit is part of your DNA like it is with Boston it's one thing, as that play comes naturally. If you as a team are just adding it to send a message ala Toronto it leads to issues as it did.

Yup. Toronto was focused too much on not being punked and not enough on actually playing the game. The Core Four plus Rielly are all soft so their solution was to bring in guys like Bertuzzi, Domi, and Reaves. You can see how that’s working.

I acknowledge that - but you have to admit that Pat Maroon is a pure 'grit and good luck charm' signing and he's 35. But yes culture is missing there.

The deployment has been strange there this year - and now they're locked down even more next season.

Letting Kerfoot walk only to sign Domi was one of the stupidest moves Ive seen.

Maroon was noticeable with a few nasty hits. I didn’t watch most of the game though and was listening from the bathtub. Leafs games and bubble baths go perfectly together.

If the leafs bow out in the first round.
I don’t know how they bring Marner back next season.
With being a pending UFA I can’t see how the leafs can stay so top heavy.

I mean I hate the leafs so them keeping the status quo won’t break my heart or anything

I wonder who'd be interested in an 11M forward with one year left before UFA who pulls a Houdini in the playoffs every year

Plus, the NMC. So not only would the team have be ok with the above, but it would have to be a palatable destination for Mitch (maybe long term) AND have the cap space or ability to clear the cap space to fit him
