So the Jets will be Canada's team?![]()
Can you provide a source for this interview? I'd like to read it.I'll go with the interview Chipman gave over your opinion.
sometime within the first few years after 2011, Chipman stated in an interview that at the he and the group he was working with to keep the Jets in 95, whom Chipman claimed had the money and plan ready to build a new arena by 99/2000) were unceremoniously told that barring a 100% financed and set arena deal by July 1 95 , and a demand for a single owner who would own both the Arena and the Team, there was no way forward for ANYONE in winnipeg to keep the Jets in place.
In short: in 1996 despite the efforts of a funded and well organized ownership group who were committed to grow the team in Winnipeg, unprecedented restrictions on the ownership of an NHL team...never asked by the NHL before or since....were invented pretty much on the spot to deny Winnipeg any opportunity to keep the team.
I'd rather be a mutli-millionaire and own an NHL team worth 1.5bil than have it all in cash.Multiple factors...
Winnipeg Enterprises was the main. Problem... small town thieves
then shenkarow got good coin for the franchise - might have been sold before the save the Jets campaign started
Winnipeg egos told izzy asper thanks but no thanks...
If anyone thinks the Jets aren't moving in ten years... tell me if you'd say no to 1.5 billion for a 179 million investment...
I DON’T have a source but I remember it having lived through it.Can you provide a source for this interview? I'd like to read it.
I think he resigns on a 2 year deal after next season and if he maintains a point a game pace and isn't injured he could catch Gordie.Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby has passed Phil Esposito for 10th on the all time points list!
1. Wayne Gretzky - 2,857
2. Jaromir Jagr - 1,921
3. Mark Messier - 1,887
4. Gordie Howe - 1,850
5. Ron Francis - 1,798
6. Marcel Dionne - 1,771
7. Steve Yzerman - 1,755
8. Mario Lemieux - 1,723
9. Joe Sakic - 1,641
10. Sidney Crosby - 1,591
11. Phil Esposito - 1,590
AMAZING CROSBY
I think he will pass SUPER MARIO for sure to 8th place.

Reachable is up to 5th spot Ron Francis i think?
The Yotes are done players and staff told they are moving to SLC.
yeah i keep sources for 8year old interviews that are common public knowledge on handCan you provide a source for this interview? I'd like to read it.
Bettman in shambles over Arizona moving but busting a proverbial nut over Vegas in the playoffs. Must be a weird day for that doofus.
The 28 year failed experiment has finally ended.
What a great day for the NHL.
I’m as happy the Coyotes are finally leaving as anyone else, but it’s a crappy thing to kick both Coyotes fans in the nuts right now.Coyotes board putting up the “it’s worse when you do it to us” shield one more time, good to see.View attachment 850791
Yeah maybe if i didn’t have to put up with “you doing the exact same thing to us is worse because QQ”, I might be inclined to cut ‘em both a break.I’m as happy the Coyotes are finally leaving as anyone else, but it’s a crappy thing to kick both Coyotes fans in the nuts right now.
This was definitely a thing I recall. The NHL didn't want a consortium of a bunch of shallow pocketed small businessmen. Kinda made up the rule iirc. It was definitely the dick anti-WHA owners pushing that.I DON’T have a source but I remember it having lived through it.
“Yay - an ownership group has come together - and there’s a real deal agreed to for a new arena - the jets are saved!”
“Sorry - we DON’T like ownership groups - we want a single owner”
Ummmm. What?
It’s certainly cool that the Doans bookended the Yotes story.Papa Doan and his kid have something in common, Doan played his 1 year here and the team moved to Arizona, and his kid got called up and will end up playing a few games in Arizona and will move to Utah, by the way his kid has a future
Didn’t he buy a shitty website instead? Why didn't Izzy buy the Jets? He could have been rich.
