There were a couple of Helle to NJD threads on the main boards last summer. Their fanbase was very certain they didn't need helle to be a contender, almost to a point of arrogance

The irony is that if a deal had been made, they'd probably be top 5 in the league and we'd be battling for a playoff spot (if we were lucky)

I usually only wish for heartache for fans of the Leafs, Habs, Oilers, Flames, Canucks, Wild, and f*** Vegas... but I'd get a kick out of the Devils not making the playoffs this season

i guess. KC can play a harder offensive game at time. like he wouldn't be afraid of cycling down load and along the boards, this year i have found him to be a bit more on the perimeter though. but on the defensive side, he's softer than baby palms. & i don't think "oh he's a goal scorer" is just something that preclude him from that.
Agreed

There are different ways to defend. Just body position between the puck and the net an good stick checks can be effective for smaller guys.

You don't have to knock guys off the puck and into the second row

Yeah about 60 fewer goals against for NJ if they had Hellebuyck (and he played every game...but maybe their backups would do better with fewer games against weaker opponents).

I don't think we'd be that badly off with Brossoit between the pipes this year (not Devils-bad)...but if Delia was the backup then you can pencil in about 20 losses right there.

Their own stupid arrogance burned them. Why would they want an expensive 30 year old Helleybuyck when they’ve got Vanecek and Schmid who are capable of getting the job done. :sarcasm:

I liken their situation to the Avalanche of the 90’s. Difference is Colorado knew they needed to upgrade at goaltender and they went out and got one of the best in the business who was key in their 2 Stanley Cup victories.

I wonder if his injury is still affecting him psychologically?

Broisoit would be agoodfit for the devils.
Jets could get a 1st for Bro right now. And why not do it. Bro is good but he's not getting any important games or the playoffs.

8 x $11.6. My initial thought was it seemed steep, but he had over 100 points last year and is pacing for 99 this year. And we’ve got multiple forwards in and around the $11-12 million range now. And it’s eight years … so not bad?
Good deal. I bet he wanted $12.5 x 8.

Weren't Leafs fans predicting that the Nylander contract was fine and this was the new normal with the cap going up? Then explain how Pettersson signed for the same $ value and term while being younger and playing a premium position?

I thought KFC looked pretty good forechecking etc in the first period

Jets are 14-0-1 when Ehlers scores.
