^ there is no easy answer when discussing leafs vs oilers

It’s like choosing between Right sided or left sided testicular trauma
Yeah and either way you come out of it wanting to hurl. I can only smirk at the Leafs losing again, blowing another lead to boot. The most entitled fan base in hockey, possibly in all of sports, is heading for a huge wakeup call. They can send as many of their players to the All-Star game as they please, it doesn't change the fact that they are a team without backbone. They're having a poor regular season by their standards and even less equipt at a playoff run. A top heavy team with guys inked to foolish contracts, and a prospect pool so shallow, you could wade in with bunny head slippers on without getting wet feet. They are headed for a crash down the standings in a season or two I'd wager. They'll never win another Stanley Cup, that I'd bet the farm on.

As for the Oilers. Painful to watch them on an 11 game run. It was much more amusing when Oil Country was having a meltdown at the start of the season. Surprisingly, it looks like they've been getting half decent goaltending on this stretch too. If I'm not mistaken, didn't they have somewhat of a shite middle portion to last year's campaign, before getting hot down the stretch? Still a lot of regular season left to play, so I don't want to get too arrogant here, but the Oilers don't scare me yet. I think there is still a fragile underbelly there. I wouldn't be thrilled to meet them in the post season, but I'd still fancy our chances at hurting them over the course of a series.

Inks barely dry and their are roasting Nylander, they even have enough hate left for Marner, what happened to the love in with 4 All Stars
If they want to give us him for cheap I'm all for it. Nylander is fantastic.

I found this... amusing.

Next year between Matthews, Marner , Tavares, Nylander and Reilly 54 million . 54 million dollars for 5 players ? Thank god we have Chevy. I'm sorry but there is no way in hell you can make a good TEAM like that. You can have some allstars but you don't have a good team, no way, no how.

Nylander as been more or less a point per game player for the past two seasons and this season he is having a career year. I like him as a player but this is an overpayment. There is no way he should be making David Patrnak money. Pasta put up 117 points last season and the next closest Bruin was Marchand and he had 67 points. Pasta has already been well above a PPG in 3 of his last 5 seasons and this season will make it 4 out of the last 6. He has always been a tier above Nylander as far as production goes.

Either way I think it’s tough with the Leafs. They have those huge contracts for Matthews and Marner and it seems to have set a bar I guess with Nylander even though his raw scoring numbers have never been like Marner‘S.

The Oilers have been playing really solid hockey. Good defensive hockey and allowing there superior players the chance to win games for them. They have had an "easy" schedule as well but really they are playing some solid defensive hockey with good goaltending.

The Oilers have been getting unsustainably good goaltending from Skinner lately, with a .932 over his last 14 games. The Oilers still have some elite forward talent, but the problems they have are still the problems they have. Easy to forget them when you're highrolling and getting a lot of breaks along the way.

I wouldn't trade teams with them, would you?

That is an interesting question. A Mcdavid/Draisatil team with Chevy as the GM? I would do it

They're probably not as good as their winning streak would suggest but they definitely are not as bad as their start to the season would suggest either. Seems like it's balancing out a bit.

That's what I was going to say. I think they are good enough to be a seeded team in the Pacific but likely that 3rd spot.

Wow Leafs could be out of a playoff spot by this weekend ... did the Nylander contract upset a few players?
Only 3 of the 7 teams make the playoffs and Leafs the have the toughest schedule remaining.
Leafs 50 points
Wings 49 points
Bolts 49 points
Pens 48 points
Caps 48 points
Isles 48 points
Devils 47 points
Woah, that is a log-jam and a half.

I'd pay money to see a world where Carolina's goaltending goes off the rails again, and the Capitals pass them for 3rd in Metro and take another divisional playoff spot. There would be so many coaches canned for essentially blowing a playoff spot to Philly and Washington of all teams.

But assuming that doesn't happen, the next best thing would be to have TBL and TOR miss for refusing to believe that their GMs are bottom-5 caliber in the whole sport.

Well checkout the Oilers' Mickey Mouse schedule.
And I'm not talking about the teams they play ... plus at least 4 of their wins in Dec/Jan came playing teams B2B or 3 games in 4 nights. Let’s see how they do when their schedule is loaded at the end of the season. If they lose first round or not make the playoffs I’m sure that the tough schedule at the end of the season will be bought up.
