The Habs have averaged over 20k in attendance since they moved into the Bell center almost 30 years ago, and have been a bad team for a good chunk of those years (roughly half if I had to guess). I don't think there's any risk of the barn not being full or the beer not being sold.

you may want to talk to Pierre McGuire. He was talking about the Habs and the Bell Center and the realty of its occupancy. The Habs are not the Leafs. They are no different than most markets, poor play = empty seats.

Poor play = less Molson being sold.

yes, Montreal can mitigate through consistent season ticket sales, but a sold seat is different than an occupied one. $20 a beer, does help/hurt. As can merchandizing as can all other revenue streams.

Well, it's the media running with the story too at this point, as if this team should have any expectations. Maybe I'm more down on their current roster than some, but them making the playoffs looked entirely out of the question to me and critics seemed to agree heading in, so I guess it's just weird to see this narrative now as if it's been unexpected.

It may still be time for Marty to go, I don't know, but their roster won't achieve much more atm with someone else, imo.

Not that I ever understand what that poster is saying but the Habs also make a ton of money with TV deals, Evenko and merchandise. Their AHL teams attracts more than 9000 fans per game. They own everything.

The last valuation of the Habs is 4 Billions CAD. Geoff Molson literally sleeps on money and he purchased the team 575 M$ in 2009. The money they are making is indecent. They could play in front of an empty arena for years, probably for decades actually. Even without attendance revenue, they'd still make very large profits

There's a ridiculous amount of coverage here, TV and radio talk about the Habs 24/7, they need clicks, they need audience. The medias are always into sensationalism to achieve that. They need stuff to talk about and re-assess the same things over and over. From what I understood, they talked about being "in the mix", like when we talked about playing meaningful games in March but I haven't heard about playoffs expectations though. It's possible that some crazy fans came up with unreasonable expectations but from the pulse I have from hockey friends, expectations were still in rebuilding mode, they're just rightfully excited about their prospect pool, like we were after the 2020 draft
