there should be a public tribunal to question all those involved in the Boucher selection.
Covid draft. It is unreal how bad it was.. AND how bad it was in other leagues.

NHL... Round 1 and 2 are a joke. So far only 3-4 players are above average and a solid 30-40 are busts.

NFL.. al QBS taken are busts. And I am including Trever LAWRENCE. He is a middling QB who was suppose to be the next super star. The rest of the first 2 rounds are a joke. Not one ALL pro, only 3 pro bowlers. Two of which are Lawrence and Mac Jones.. a middling and a bust that had one good year.

The NBA... both rounds produced one bust after another. Only Scottie Barns is showing promise. And he is hardly HOF worthy.

WNBA.. all are middling to busts. No all star selection for any player

MLB, only a handful have played big league ball. 3 all stars.

the 2019-2021 seasons (2 in hockey, 2 in Basketball and 1 in football and baseball) damaged all who were playing.

The Sens got F'ed along with 145 other Pro teams.

the first 15-20 picks look pretty solid in the NHL though. so that's no excuse.

The only other clear bust from the top 23 seems to be Bourgault. not to say the others will all be nhlers, but they still have a chance to become something. The top 11 seem to all be core/star NHLers, minus Boucher.

Isn't that pretty common for the NBA and WNBA though?

I remember the Cavs having a bunch of #1's in a row after Lebron left and other than Kyrie, it didn't really help them because the drafts were a total shit show of little talent, even at the top. Last year was pretty underwhelming I think too.

I've also seen it referenced that the majority of the WNBA draft class is basically just for show and not even signed, but haven't fact checked that one.

look again. See how many have played 100 or more games and have 100 or more points (60 or more for a D man).. 3 and 1/8 seasons later. That is ~ 255 games already passed.

Powers, was to be the next Norris D man. At best a rock solid guy, but no Norris. Beniers wins the Calder and follows it up with a 37 point season. He is on his way to a 55-60 point season. Not exactly HOF tracking.

Yea, Boucher was a f*** up.. But look at the next 20 behind him. In fact, look at the next 70 behind him.

2021 draft year. ALL SPORTS... will go down in history as the absolute worst.

no...

The NFL is rock solid in terms of its productivity
4-7 QBs go in R1 and R2.. 3-5 make it. 2-4 are busts/middling/hang on as a back-up for 3-5 years
64 players drafted.. a solid 40 are starters. A solid 10 will play in at least one pro-bowl. A solid 5 will be all pro for a minimum one season

NBA
3 of top 5 guys are all stars, almost immediately.
of the 60 picks.. about 30 end up starters...and another 10 end up as the 6, 7, or 8 man
some 10 will play in at least one all star in their career
and 2-5 will be ALL NBA at points in their career.

Ditto for the WNBA

Even the NHL
picks 1-5 are almost sure fire all stars
r1 produces 15-20 regulars with 5-10 being top guys (Line 1 or 2, D pair 1 or 2)
r2 produces 5-10 regulars with 2-5 being top guys (Line 1 or 2, D pair 1 or 2)

While early, the 2021 drafts, baseball included, are a tad behind schedule. Many have yet to play 100 games.. 255 games in since their draft year. (correct for other sports and their schedule/productivity)

Boucher, Ostapchuck, Rogers, Johansson.. a grand total of 8 games.. out of almost a 1000 available to them. These 4 should have a combined 300 to 325 under their belts.

even the 2022 got burnt. It is just as bad for all the leagues.

...but Dorion said, on Gatineau Habs Radio, that he was involved in top 10 picks....but not that one. So it's all on the scouts. Smh.

Hmm, there seems to be some truth to your NBA comments, but it's definitely not a rule and some of those seem questionable. Any sources for those numbers? 30 starters a year sounds like a massive stretch. The article below is an interesting one to peruse showing some weak classes. 2013 when the Cavs had the wasted #1 Bennett pick was high on my mind as a terrible year, but then Giannis did also come from the class as a lower pick.

I won't double down on the WNBA comment. I don't pay any attention to that league, so have limited knowledge, I just had seen that referenced a few times that most draft picks don't even get signed after draft night. That league is obviously changing quickly though and has gotten more popular with Clark.

I am not suggesting busts don't occur. All I can tell you is: I spend a ton of time going through this. And there is consistency.

The numbers are accurate.

Yes, you can have 2-4 years of #1 going bust. But that is often followed up by 5 years of the #1 being a star.

And 30 NBA teams. At 5 starters..150.. account for years 1-2 being rookie.. so only minor starts. Account for years last and 2nd to least when you often loose your starting job. Account for about 1 year worth of injuries. You are down to about 8 years of "starting" time. Now consider another 1 player per team whose career is often derailed by chronic injury. Players suspended,

See the 2019 draft. Count how many have played more than 200 games. See how many have played more than 100.

Only ~ 20 are busts. the remaining 40 all played many games. Of which about 30 have played 200 or more. And ~ 10 are clearly 6-8 players.

Fair enough. Guess it just doesn't seem like that a lot of the time but never dove in to it much. Definitely some years that were basically a waste at the top skewing perception potentially. Last years was criticized for the lack of high end talent. Thanks for the link though..

Those post LeBron years for the Cavs really stuck with me. They had 4th, 1st and 1st and walked away with Waiters, Bennett and Wiggins, so basically nothing other than being able to turn Wiggins in to a somewhat effective on occasion, Kevin Love.

LOL. This isn't even a contest. Miller is so much better than JBD it's not even funny. It's nice to see JBD actually play NHL games but Miller is a top 4 21-22 minute a night guy on a perennial contender, who also happens to have a 43 point season under his belt.

JBD is also playing on a perennial contender. I’d rather have JBD because he’s not soft

Boston is having some problems, I think it might be the year that they take a step back. They have no punch offensively except for Pasta and Marchand.

Good night overall in the Atlantic. Would have liked a Leafs loss but maybe we see a vulnerable Seattle team on Saturday. Starting to smell blood in the water...

Bruins traded the wrong goalie.

They traded the older goalie and kept the young one who had just as good numbers and more potential.

They definitely kept the right one and any team would’ve kept Swayman over Ullmark.

Definitely could argue they should’ve kept Ullmark this season though or at least waited until Swayman is signed to trade Ullmark. It was poorly played by Boston and the negotiation went public. Now Swayman, coming in with no training camp, has even more pressure. Boston as an organization really f***ed up this entire situation.

Not worried for Swayman though. 8 games won’t undo what he did over 100+ games.
