A deal that pays him $8 million a year now is a fair deal that will only be more and more team friendly as time goes on.

It's probably reasonable to push for a number that makes the Bruins a little more uncomfortable at present.

Sweeney probably only offered $8 million aav for 8 years for Swayman. I hope Swayman sits as long as possible. Boston's D can only protect Korpse for so long and the Bruins decline might actually happen for once
It's almost like that franchise has gotten spoiled by players taking discounts to stay on the team over the last decade.

Oh what a wonderful world it would be if we could play even a small part in watching Boston slide down the Atlantic rankings

8 mil is fair, Swayman hasn't proven he can take on a 60+ game workload like Hellebuyck yet.
According to the Boston thread, he played great in the playoffs but only has played 132 games in total. Also, after all-star game last season he struggled, Ullmark got them through that stretch. There's also the possibility that he struggles without Ullmark as backup, much the same way Murray was never the same after MAF went to Vegas. I think it's a fair deal because there is some risk for the Bruins side going 8 years, and it's fair to Swayman as he'll only be 33 at the end of the contract and will get another big payday if he turns out to be and remains a top 5 goalie. There are no guarantees he'll stay healthy or not decline. $64 million is nothing to sneeze at.

Jacobs, the owner of the Bruins, is the one who pushed for the cap. Based on the comments I've read on the Bruins board, he doesn't sound like the type that would cave to an RFA's demands. Swayman has the same agent as Nylander, but Jacobs is a totally different animal than the MLSE.

Another interesting angle is that Swayman and Shesterkin want to raise the pay levels for goalies as they are on the lower scale of top dollars when compared to other positions. Shesterkin wants to set the goalie market, Swayman wants to ensure his contract doesn't hurt the market for contracts of future goalies. All I can say, he'd better hope that Korpi doesn't play well in front of Boston's team D approach as I wouldn't be surprised if Boston lets him sit out the year.

And Shesterkin. The current offer to Swayman is in line with what they were paid as RFAs and they both had played more games and were already starters when they got those contracts.

And you wonder how this effects the Ullmark negotiations, neither goalie has been a true starter and if Swayman gets $8x8 without a Vezina then Ullmark with a Vezina and better NHL attack record deserves $8.5x 8yrs

I think the age plays a factor here. The 8th year of Swayman is way more palatable than Ullmark.

True, but you’re the Ottawa Senators and a Vezina winner is listening - I think Ullmark gets more then Swayman and better trade protection

Wow that bridge is getting burnt mighty quick. Boston really going to gift two teams with top 10 goalies this offseason?

Bruins fans on their board literally trying to suggest that Swayman's agent is actually misleading him on the Bruins' offers and that this will end with him firing his agent and signing a fair deal. Or that they're running to save face because Big Man Neely has them backed into a corner.

Delusional.

I guess I am just neurotic because idk how some players have the willpower to reject tens of millions of dollars to try to squeeze out some more.

What if you end up in a car accident the next day and are unable to play ever again?

The Bruins need to get Pierre Dorion in these negotiations stat. Get that 8x8 offer moving.

If Ullmark doesn't command an 8M cap hit by January or February, then there is a problem with his play.

I don't think the Senators should sign him to 8 until they see how he plays in their system because as of today, that's his ceiling. It would be the same mistake Dorion made with Murray. (Although, balancing the budget with a backloaded contract might be why he was eager to give him term.)

But if come January, they aren't gladly signing him to 8M, then it probably means he hasn't come as advertised. The only knock on Ullmark is that he has never played a true starter workload. With the relative weakness of our backup goalies, he absolutely will play one here.

Technically, 8M would be an overpayment right now based on the historical market and his resume, he would probably be at 6.5M-7.0M. If he proves he can be a top 5-10 goalie in the league this season with 60+ games played, he's set himself up to get 8M.

The Bruins need to get Pierre Dorion in these negotiations stat. Get that 8x8 offer moving.

Using Matt Murray's contract as a reference point, Pierre would have offered Swayman a 22 year 18M AAV contract with a limited NTC that allows him to choose which 6 teams Dorion can pretend he didn't name.

Bruins sign Swayman for a fortune.
They waive Bussi.
Sens claim Bussi
Swayman gets hurt.
The Korpse lays an egg.
Sens trade Forsberg to a desperate Bruins team for a 2nd.

Fortunes reverse and the summer of george begins.
