Jensen prevents way more goals than Chychrun, so it likely evens out in

11 goals so far, hard to say Chychrun isn’t a grade above. For comparison Sens entire D only has 8 combined goals. He was just a bad fit last year and wasn’t motivated, who knows how he would have played with a better coached team.

Chychrun flying against the Bruins and scores a nice PPG. Wish he played like that here.
He kinda did, then he fizzled out right around the new year.

Jensen is just a way better fit for this team. Chabby is now playing the best hockey of his career.

You don’t think any of it is warranted?

My sentence was very short so I haven't talked about that. Like everyone on the Rangers, he has been underperforming but every time I read a Rangers fan, they seem a lot more harsh on him than others, like if it was personal. Very toxic

He's going to be 32 y/o in a few months, I don't think he's going to be in his prime much longer but he had 26 goals and 72 pts last season. I think he can pace for 60+ pts for a few more years but can't see that happening in the current setup

This is absolutely blowing up in Vancouver right now by the way.
Looks like Pettersson is available
Allvin went on blast basically, Not sure what you guys would offer, or how seriously you would be interested, He would obviously need a Haul.
But, just thought I would share and get your guys opinions!
Not everyday a 90+ Center with great Defensive abilities becomes available.

Thoughts?

No cap space for EP, unless Norris and Perron would go the other way. But in that case, Canucks would want nice picks and prospects, something Ottawa doesn't have anymore.

Boeser is a better option for us from Van if he doesn’t sign. Would be way cheaper to acquire, cheaper contract, and actually fills a roster hole.

We really don’t need guys who have questionable dedication and heart. Same goes for Zib.

I’ve only watched the last two caps games, but points aside he looks like a different player who stands out. Probably some recency bias but I don’t remember him driving play much here even if he picked up points. I guess when the last memory of him is a team worst -30 who checked out in January it’s easy to forget a relatively good start.

I don't think offense was an issue when it came to Chychrun. The problem was everything else. His one hand on the stick stick checks were quite frustrating, not to mention him being lost defensively more often than not. Could be a by product of DJ Smiths system or whatever you would call it.

Not sure how he has looked on the other side of the puck

Pretty much, only person canucks would probably look at is brady, which you guys would probably pass

100% and I'm not a huge Tkachuk fan, just aware of what he brings to a hockey team.

I like Yakemchuk but he's far from proven, asking for him in a trade for a 90-100 point player(when he's actually playing at that level) isn't unreasonable.

It would be Norris + Yakemchuk which doesn't work for me just to have the luxury to pay EP 3 M$ per season than Stutzle.

A grade above offensively, a grade well below jensen defensively and then jensen has settled chabot down big time too. It was a 2 for 1

The Habs prospect pool is highly rated but they are still magic beans. I think Demidov will be excellent but the rest, I’ll believe it when I see it.

I expect Staios to improve this team substantially again this coming offseason. He had a phenomenal first offseason.

Was our pool magic beans after the 2020 draft? I personally called that draft one of the best in NHL history. It's not that hard to see things coming with a bit of scouting.

Demidov, Reinbacher, Hage, Roy, Mailloux, Fowler, Beck, Kapanen, Engstrom, Dobes, Mesar, etc

They don't need to hit on all of them but there's several quality NHLers in there and probably a few stars. This summer, Emil Heineman was ranked 16th in their HF pool and is doing quite well this season.

But it's not like they had only that, Hutson (20), Suzuki (25), Caufield (23), Slafkovsky (20), Laine (26), Guhle (22), etc... it's not like they had nothign at the NHL level already

And not sure what you meant by "phenomenal first offseason"?

I mean, the Ullmark is obviously awesome if Ullmark stays healthy and keeps playing like he has recently and not like at the start of the season.

Jensen has fit well on the team but you realized we had to give 26 y/o Chychrun to get him and he's 34 y/o? Chychrun has 10 goals 24 pts in 31 games and is +15 so far this season...

Both Perron and Amadio signings are clearly not working out so far, 2 goals, 10 pts in 42 games for 6.6 AAV

Cousins and Gregor are decent depth signings for the price.

Gaudette is a nice surprise but as the season advance, his stats will look more modest.

We gave up on Brannstrom and Joseph and even had to pay a 3rd round pick when they're clearly much better than Hamonic and several of the forwards we have been running around with.

What am I missing? Staios will have to pull some white rabbits out of his hat to fill 2 Top-6 gigantic holes next season.

Jensen is just a way better fit for this team. Chabby is now playing the best hockey of his career.

Not true, Chabot looked like he would become a perennial Norris contender in his 22 y/o season.

DJ Dorion hockey hurt this team immeasurably and in so many ways.

As much as we want to blame DeBrincat and Chychrun, it was not easy to come into this gigantic MESS.

Lol Bruins two points up on Tampa with 5 (yes FIVE) more games played.

Tampa could easily win the division once they catch up in GP.

If you are looking at offence sure Chychrun is nice but he was trash here whereas Jensen came in a created a great pairing with Chabot.

1 is injured and faced a major life event, and the other, even with his offensive struggles (that are in line with his 3rd line mates Pinto & Cousins producing almost identically), has outproduced Joseph.

Yeah but Perron can't contribute in the real world. I didn't mean to blame Staios, just life circumstances. It will be a major uphill battle for Perron to be worth his AAV this season and next season he'll be 37 y/o... so not going to get easier

Amadio has been outplayed almost every single season by Joseph. Maybe not this season because Joseph was injured and has been kept off the score sheet since but it doesn't mean he would have been injured if he stayed in Ottawa, a bit like it was stupid to trade Connor Brown for a 2nd round pick a few years ago. Anyone who understands anything about life understands about the butterfly effect.

That said, even if we moved on from Joseph, signing Noesen, Foegele or Heinen would have been a real win, not Amadio, a pretty meh player in all zones.

None of the Habs prospects outside Demidov worry me. Lots of support players.

Staios knocked it out of the park. Our 3 biggest roster needs were goaltending - check, fixing our D corps - check, veteran support players - check. Our bottom 6 is much better, our cap is mostly fixed and the coaching staff is NHL calibre.

I think a lot of fans are missing what Staios is looking to accomplish. He wants a team that can win 2-1 not a team that needs 5 goals to win.

Huge no to Pettersson or JT Miller. Let the Nucks keep on dealing with whatever drama/baggage they might have.

EP since getting paid has been useless and Miller doesn't know the difference between being a good teammate and a dick. When he wants to, he's one of the best all round cetnres in the league, but when he's off he can be a huge liability in his own zone.
