Regular season stats are for a much larger sample size, 82 games.

In a playoff series that is max 7 games, players can go hot or cold and really change the course of a series. Panthers power play and offense disappeared and Vasilevskiy turned into a brick wall.

Zito spent two first round draft picks among other assets going for it this year, just to go out in the second round. Tough way to end the season.
It's because run and gun offense has never and will never work in the playoffs.

I think for the current state of the sport you would be correct, but never is overstating it. The 80s Edmonton Oilers & the early 90s Penguins might want to have a word with you. Even the 94 Rangers could join the conversation, among a few others I'm probably overlooking.

Hmm. I understand what you’re saying but personally, no thanks. Marchand is so adept at toeing the line. Kadri oversteps. Bumping a goalie is gamesmanship. Ending his season is not. Even Carter of the Pens, what he did to Shesterkin was annoying but not over the line. What Kadri did was wrong. Not crazy-wrong. But too far. He’s a habitual line-stepper and I’m not interested. Sean Avery for all his nonsense never really injured anyone. Never ended a guys season. For me, it’s a big difference. Love the sandpaper guys but hate the dangerous players.

I get it. Rangers do need more fire passion physical board work in the top 6. a little nastiness is not a bad thing sometimes within reason.

And yet what Kadri did was neither a penalty on the ice nor deemed worthy of any supplemental discipline. He's been suspended 6 times. If the play was bad they're not going to let it slide with his history. It was a nothing play going for a loose puck that everyone should make and had a bad result.

It's painful how little the regular season performance seems to matter at the end of the day.

A sweep for Tampa is such a disappointing result for Florida.
I'm going to keep banging on this drum-- if regular season games ended in a tie after 60 minutes, Florida doesn't even win their division, let alone the President's Trophy. Yeah, getting swept isn't great but if they finished behind Toronto in the division, would a second round loss to the back to back defending champs sting so much?

The NHL not disciplining him for that is their mistake and probably brought on a lot of the awful shit on and off the ice that Kadri's going through. Even if it wasn't "on purpose", Kadri has been in the league long enough to know what he's doing and the reputation he has is well earned; its not like he's some choir boy.

The fact that he has that reputation, has been suspended many times, and the league did not feel the need to penalize or suspend him for this play says a lot about what they thought about the play. It was a standard hockey play.

The league also didnt suspend Wilson for the Panarin incident or Zadorov for trying to take Glendening's head off in this playoffs. Their judgement should be questioned.

There is no supplemental discipline because it’s just a missed minor penalty call. Maybe interference or something. The actual action was nothing. It’s the context in this case.
My point is, it’s a reckless and dangerous play. 99% of players don’t do that.
And this player has a history of reckless and dangerous play.
And that’s not a player I want on the Rangers. Which is what @RangersFan1994 and I were discussing.

Only a matter of time before Smith does something stupid back

one of my favorite feelings is watching more playoff hockey after my team wins, hehe
I was ready to ask the question for everyone:

How much interest in watching the other games is based on our team winning/ being in it still?

There is no way that Edmonton would pose any of a threat to Colorado. Calgary needs to get their head out of their ass, they are the team that can give them a run for their money.

I still love playoff hockey as long as the rangers are still in. Then I’m usually too sad to watch.
