The Devils are a skilled hockey team no doubt. But they remind me a lot of us when we didn’t play “playoff hockey”. When the space tightens up their small little stars wilt.

And this is why I'm not a believer in them. Playoff hockey is a different beast, and their stars will get run over when the games get physical. Soft perimeter teams always flame out in the playoffs. Teams can be built well for the regular season, but not playoffs.

Exactly. That year we won like 59 games I thought we were gonna destroy the playoffs. We were so f***ing terrible when the space got tight

He is GREAT! A few games ago my wife and I were sitting in our club seats when we saw Mr. Viola, Mrs. Viola, and Mr. Cifu sitting in the suite down to our left and Mrs. Viola had the big ass Stanley cup ring on her finger. My wife gestured down to Mr. Viola to show us the ring and he told his wife to come forward and show us the big ass ring. All of them were extremely nice

The Devils are skilled, fast and have good goaltending. I think they have a good chance to win a playoff series or two this season.

Not sure what to make of the Panthers right now. I remain concerned about the blue line and I am a little concerned about the goaltending, but we'll see how it shakes out.

even last year we werent this bad, every now and then sure, but under 3 goals given up by us is rare
Dont see us goin too far unless bob goes playoff mode again

It's not all on Bob, but IMO he just isn't playing that well right now. Mostly he's been fine, and had some really stellar moments, but he's had a couple of stinker games in there. I think a lot of it is overall team effort level, honestly, and I hope that won't be a problem when it counts.

Saving the super hero moments for the POs. I am totally down with that

Yup, I'd rather he heat up as the season goes on . Plus we are going to add at the deadline too . As much as people don't want to hear it, this team is not going balls to the walls in November. They know they have to conserve energy. I expect them to get it together mid-season, then dog it around February/March again, then switch it on in the playoffs.

Found some masturbatory material for JLD.

Behold, the flames current leading goalscorer.

Huberdeau also got his 500th assist which is 2nd in his draft class, tied with Johnny Gaudreau.

Weegar had a 3 point night. Both are currently tied for 2nd in points on the flames. (11 points in 20 games..)

And the Panthers are crashing and burning!

I don't have a great place to put this, so I'll try here. Over on the History of Hockey forum, we're running a project where we try to rank the top goaltenders of all time. This means comparing and contrasting goaltenders from all eras of hockey, from all teams, from all leagues. It's obviously very difficult to do this as there's so much context that needs to be accounted for, which is why we do it - it's fun and we learn about history.

That's why I'm here, for context on your guy Sergei Bobrovsky, who's currently up for voting! Anything you Panthers fans can offer about him is wanted in the voting thread right here. Anything you got: stats, memories, anecdotes, it's all good. I'm particularly interested in a comparison of his play between the past two Cup Final years and his play the first few years in Florida. If you just want to drop in and read the discussion, of which there's plenty from previous voting rounds, that's welcome too. Thanks!

Here’s a summary of Bob on Panthers.

Before first SCF run: sucked
First SCF run: incredible
Second SCF run and win: incredible
Now: sucks

He was decent in 2021 regular season, sucked in playoffs.
In 22 he was fantastic for the first couple months of the season, was a big reason we won the President's Trophy. He was first in Moneypuck for goalies in November . Was very good rest of the season and in the playoffs.
It's been a slow arc up for him since 2019.

Zadorov is such a bitch. Malkin was reckless in his retaliation but I understand why he wasn’t gonna let it pass.

I'm very much not a fan of using your stick, especially not swinging it into the bench.

With that said, the NHL should have retroactively reviewed and issued Boston a bench major, and suspended Zadorov for a game. That's the only way to handle that kind of situation.

You absolutely can not use your stick to f*** with a guy on the ice when you are on the bench. NHL needs to send a harsh message in response to that, if only to try to mitigate the kind of retaliation we saw from Malkin in the future.
