I can't see them going far with that roster construction, namely the defence. Pittsburgh is the only team I've seen take it all with a highly suspect backline. And Toronto's top forwards are not in the Crosby/Malkin echelon.

not to downplay what Ovechkin's done here at all(I genuinely think it's incredibly impressive, and also scoring goals is harder nowadays than it was in the 80s it just is) but Gretzky's assist records were always way more unbreakable than his goal ones, he's not really all that far off straight up having double what second place does there plus there's of course that famous stat about him having more assists than anyone else having points


back to Ovechkin though, something that makes this even more impressive than it already would be is how much it feels like he still has left in the tank even today at 39 years old, I honestly think he could probably pass a thousand goals if he really wanted to(not that I think he will, it would require him playing 2-3 more seasons after this one and I just don't think he'll do that)

How poetic is it when Montreal eliminates Detroit without scoring a single goal.

I like the kids playing. And the prospects on the way. But at some point it would be great to see the GM with a pulse north of zero, actually bringing in some external talent to compliment things.

Not emptying the cupboard or making moves just for giggles. Just a modest trade or two, so speed bumps like Holl and Tarasenko can stay in the press box where they belong.

The NHL must be keeping stricter count on giveaways this season. Just looking at our team and a fair number of guys have double the giveaways they normally have. Just looking at the top of the league in pts guys and they also have much higher GA stats than normal.

There was a thread earlier in the year, I believe on the main boards, that pointed this out. It turned out to be across the board, so yeah there was definitely a change to the standard in how those stats were tracked
