I don't know where some of you are getting the idea that we would have fared any better against Anaheim. The Jets earned a playoff spot. The Kings didn't. And while some of you may throw out buzzwords like "championship pedigree" and "experience", the Kings are still a team that lost to ****ing Edmonton in the last week of the season with the playoffs on the line.

Some of us need to stop romanticizing the Kings as if they're anywhere near the team they used to be. They're not. They **** the bed big time this year and there's absolutely no indication they wouldn't have been swept right along with Winnipeg. With the way LA was playing down the stretch it's shocking how anyone can really believe they'd have done anything relevant in the playoffs this year.

Yeah, if we made the playoffs, I would've hoped to avoid Anaheim. Last thing I want is their revenge. I would wait until we are truly a good team if we were to face those *****es again.

This years Kings would have been out in the first round if they made the Playoffs. I can't wait for the Playoffs to end so Lombardi can start cutting the fat from this roster. Stoll was a bro and took himself out. RR retired with dignity and Williams better not get re-signed or I'm going to flip out.

Lombardi has 3 main objectives as far as I'm concerned.

1) Sign Toffoli
2) Sign Sekera
3) Get a legit 3C

It's unfortunate but i agree Stollsie kinda pulled an Ozone Stoll on himself and likely cost himself a resign.

I'm on the fence with Williams, thinking 1 year.

But my top priority would be to sign TT and hopefully Sekera.

Williams is gonna cash in on a multi-year deal back East. Wouldn't be shocked if someone like New Jersey threw him 4 year/16 million.

Sekera will be re-signed. My guess is 7 year/33.25 million.

Toffoli of course will be re-signed. All details at this juncture. Bridge or long term? Either one has its pros and cons.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Dean acquire a 3C at the draft.

Well, see ya Jets. At least they earned their playoff spot, but that was it. I had them getting swept in my bracket challenge, but I was hoping I was wrong...apparently not. Time to change my avatar...for now.

Kesler has added an element to the Ducks that Richards added to the Kings in 2012. Upgrading from Koivu to Kesler is on par with Stoll to Richards.

Couldn't agree more. He gives them that extra dimension they had lacked previously. Big addition for them, obviously.

Pavelec is not a playoff goalie.

I don't think he is a goalie, period.

Still amazed he went, what, 3 games at the end of the season without giving up a goal. Must have called upon his inner Ken Dryden to do that.

The Jets would be better of with Hutchinson and Hellebuyck, who still needs some seasoning in the AHL.

The Jets wasted our playoff spot, well done Winnipeg.

Meh, it wasn't our spot to begin with. We didn't earn it this year.

Credit to the Jets for getting in but they showed their inexperience.

It should only serve to help them in the future should they get back into the second season.

Serious. The Kings at times this season flat out sucked. They'd have lost in the playoffs against the Ducks too. Don't think they'd get swept but they'd have lost.

Unfortunately, I think the first two things on that list preclude the third. I think it's fairly obvious Richards is going to be the third line center going into 15/16 from the comments out of management. There is no miracle trade in the works, and Lombardi will NOT buy him out. I don't know why some people think that's an option in Lombardi's mind. Buying out Richards would basically be a sign that Lombardi wants to tear the entire house down. You don't tie up that much phantom cap space on a contending team. It doesn't happen, and it won't happen on the Kings. This is Dean Lombardi, people. He pinches every penny of cap space he has. He won't throw away millions on a Richards buyout. I will literally eat my sock if this happens.

It's much more of a Dean Lombardi philosophy to try and groom Richards into some kind of remotely useful bottom six player. Whether or not he can actually do that, who knows, probably not, but he'll damn sure try.

I'd say the first one is a must and will be done, regardless of anything else. After that, there are too many unknowns right now to say Lombardi has to do this or that. We don't know what he has the ability to do yet. Don't even know what the cap is exactly, we don't know for sure what will happen with Richards yet, and the seemingly ever present Voynov question remains.

People hating on the jets here saying how out matched they were. Other than Game 4 Winnipeg lead every game for way more time than the ducks.
This series was a lot closer than a sweep, have to give the ducks credit for coming back in the first 3 games and for coming out strong last night.

Simply put, why? The idea that buying out Richards creates a ton of phantom cap space is only true in the 4th and 5th years of the buy out. How much cap space is saved with Richards playing in the AHL?

They already tried to groom Richards into some type of useful bottom sixer, he wasn't interested and/or just doesn't fit in that role.

You want catsup, mustard, salt, pepper, anything else to go with those socks?

They never did groom him for any bottom six role, they claimed they just wanted to monitor his conditioning or run tests on him to see where he's at during the course of the season. The problem was production, not being in shape. Of course the expectation was high once DL went to visit him, and the expectation was he'd be ready for training camp in shape of which he was.

It was a mistake (one of many) to send him to Manchester or hope he would get picked up through waivers. It didn't provide any jolt to the team, it did the opposite.

Richie10 is right, if Richards is being bought out, then it's a full-scale rebuild. Which is hard to fathom since DL places a lot of importance on loyalty and team sticking together. Can't help but wonder if the off-ice crap that's been going on for the past year has DL shaken on loyalty and keeping this team together.

It's the league minimum that is saved. Right?

NO, the didn't waste the Kings playoff spot since the Kings did that all by themselves by playing piss poor for way too many games.
Jets were injury riddled (see below) and green, first go round.

Hockey players are that rare breed, play thru everything. NO other sport with such warriors:

Maurice just acknowledged 8 significant injuries, 4 of which happened in this series. Players playing with broken bones.

Trouba, Ladd, Little and Stuart all among those dealing with injuries. Time of year, but part of the story.

Jones and SHore need contracts and that adds to the cost, or lack thereof, that will apply to what DL can do.
As much as I like Sekera, getting TT signed is the first priority and given the Kings right now have less than 4 M to work with (65M ), not sure if Sekera gets done, he wanted north of 6M prior to the trade and he'll get close to that. And there are teams that have that to offer, given the value of top D.
The unsurity of Voynov until well after July 1 really sucks.

And they don't have money for a 3C, that should be Shore, he'll be all they can afford.
And I think if they had , say money from a trade (AMart or Muzzin) they'd use it to get a legit top 3 LW for the 1st line. Much needed.

SHould be an interesting summer for DL

I don't think it provided a jolt to the team, but the Kings went on an 8-game winning streak after Richards was sent down and a player that is more sound defensively was inserted into the lineup.

I think both of you massively overestimate Richards' contribution to the cup run in 2014. He had a couple of nice passes and scored a goal against Anaheim. Those were the only plays that were memorable.

Sutter damn near lost the San Jose series trying to match Richards against Thornton last year.

Buying out Richards does not signal a rebuild. Trading Kopitar or Doughty, now that would cause some major reconstruction.
