Don't know if it makes it any less painful for the rest of you, but look at it this way if another team in the West wins the Cup: it will drive Dean Lombardi and the Kings to strive to improve and get better.

Look at what the Ducks had to do after the Kings knocked them out in 7 games and saw them win the Cup. They went and added Ryan Kesler and improved their team depth. They got better, as did other teams in the West. I don't think Dean Lombardi will want to sit on his hands if every other team in the West is improving and his team is just churning its wheels.

Of course this summer might be the most challenging year of off-season activities for Dean Lombardi.

The Ducks spent more money too, that team has an internal budget set by the owner. So Henry Samueli, didn't like seeing the Kings eliminate the Ducks and win the cup.

There is only so much Dean can do with these horrendous contracts on the books. The Kings really can't improve to much. They need Kopitar and Carter to get back to being elite and Toffoli and Pearson to really take off next season. And that doesn't even cover the defense.

It's hard to compete when you are spending $11m a year and getting the kind of play they got from Brown and Richards.

It may very well be that way.

Would Dean start to think about moving Brown and Greene?

That's where the challenging part of Lombardi's summer comes in. He'll have to figure out a solution for Richards, the Voynov situation, how he can manage to bring Sekera back, and how he can motivate Dustin Brown to rejuvenate his career, and how is he going to fill the holes on the roster in addition to giving Kopitar an extension and Toffoli a new contract.

Richards is done in LA. The Kings are getting $4M or so in cap space back for next season when he gets bought out.

Datsyuk just shutting down Stamkos in this one.

Peter Chiarelli to be hired by the Oilers per Freedman. Also, Wilson to remain on in San Jose.

I guess San Jose really does have an absentee owner.

Chiarelli and Bob Nicholson will turn around the EDM Oilers horrible drafting outside the first round.

I am actually glad EDM is turning it around, it's good for hockey, that the Oilers return to competing.
