At the end of the day, that Miller 'blockbuster' didn't do much for either team. Both the Canucks and Rangers will miss the playoffs.

At least we cut out a cancerous growth, added a top 4 defensive LD, a decent RD prospect, and a young center, in addition to ditching $8 mil in cap which will start going sideways for them long before the contract ends.

I think it's already benefitting us as we've now signed MPetterson long term and changed the culture of the D, which was a massive problem. Now it's a strength.

But seriously if we're getting this in-depth would it not matter what is intent of the word is? For instance he is calling a man a whore so is it not plausible that he is using the word simply in place of prostitute?

Also from personal experience and belief I have used the word in my life generally in a joking term but towards both male and female, so my true intention is to Simply replace the word prostitute of something with a little bit more Jam.

I guess no one but him truly knows the answer
The real answer is that there's a myriad of ways to eloquently and concisely express the sentiment that Gretzky is a Trump zealot without vulgarly sexualizing it. But that wouldn't be very rah rah sports culture

Even when trying to frame a lucid critique of one another, hockey writers cannot help but include language derogatory towards women
Whore isn't a gendered term. It can be used as one, but it essentially means to debase your talents for money. Colloquially we use it to mean sexual prostitution most often, and while men can be 'whores' too, it's often derogatory towards women.

But I think he used it appropriately and not derogatorily here. Gretzky is a whore (or sellout if you prefer).

Wow, Greg Millen passes away.

I was listening to him do colour only a week or two ago.
I was thinking recently about how he suddenly looked old and how it reminded me of my age. He was a part of my childhood and a pleasant part of my hockey watching ever since.

RIP to Greg. Was always a good colour guy and just seemed like a warm, kind man.

I loathe gross patriarchal and misoginistic language more than most, but i think this is a miss here.

Whore is a strong term for sellout. It's not just a derogatory term for women who sell their body sexually or whatever interpretation you're defaulting towards.

I think you're interpreting it through a particular connotation and that is colouring your response.

I really don't think Keith Olbermann is trying to throw a backhanded dig at all women who have expressed their sexuality in a 'non-conservative' manner.

????????? blind cross ice clear to the Lightning who score? f*** was that? JT Miller LOL

Look first, then pass? Impossible

JT Miller with a giant boneheaded giveaway on the ENG

Good to see JT Miller can score a bunch of points now.Shame to see he's still careless with the puck, bad defensively and takes undisciplined penalties.some things never change.A desperate move by a desperate GM and it's backfired gloriously

Imagine thinking he was the missing piece...oh yeah, our GM did

jt miller does f***ing nothing

For those romanticizing J.T. Miller, these comments are from the GDT of the Rangers game last night.

I mean, its not so different than his time in Vancouver on the whole...he's a good player with flaws that become very apparent and cringy at times, but he also produces and comes up big at times too. I'd still rather have him on this team than some of the guys we're currently trying to pass off as top 6 forwards.

I remember everyone hated Millen back in the early 00 HNIC days but super sad to hear of his passing.

I actually liked him.
I always enjoyed him too. Him and Hughson were a great combo.

For whatever reason I will forever associate him with his long change rant that mid-broadcast he realized made no sense. I think it was during the ‘04 playoffs. Was absolutely hilarious.

Watched some of the Oilers-Ducks game last night. Without McDrai the Oilers are a poor perimeter team. Bouchard looked just awful. Bad clearing of the rebound on one goal and got absolutely destroyed wide on a second. Sure not a lot of talk about Bouchard vs Hughes this year....

Millen. I wasn't a huge fan of his color work (not the best but far from the worst) but I certainly respected him. He was a fixture on our TVs. It's a sad loss for the hockey world.

JT Miller...he is what he is. When he's on his game there are few better. When he's not, well, he's a sulky mess.

Through the power of Youtube, it's all on there. It was actually quite short. No stick or painting, just a book. What's crazy is that 31 years later, Bettman is still there! Also, classy of him to thank Pat Quinn first.

I don't get why Leonsis is there, unless Ovi wanted it that way.

oh wow the power of youtube indeed

there was definitely a ceremony at some pt in the 90s where they gave gretzky this dinky platinum stick that looked like a really shiny mini-stick…

but anyway not only am i conflating ceremonies, that short in-game 802nd goal ceremony probably felt super long back in 1994 (and tbf i was twelve) because it would have felt so unthinkable to stop a game like that. iirc (and tbh i probably don’t, haha) they didn’t even stop the game and let ppl on the ice like that when he broke the pts record.

for anyone who has a few hours, here’s the whole game, including bure’s 50th. suck it, gretzky.

Can confirm -- I was watching live and was rolling my eyes at them stopping mid-game for a long ceremony that they could easily have done after the game. And I was also annoyed at how McLean was wandering so much and how we could have avoided the whole thing if he'd just stayed in his crease.

He def seemed to have it in for the Canucks - but often I felt like they kind of deserved it?

I remember being happy when they did something that impressed him and him laughing at the Phaneuf/Ruutu thing was great.

Suddenly the Flames are 6 back of Edm with the same amount of games left. I would love if they somehow bumped them from the playoffs. The Flames are trending up and the Oilers down. But Edmonton has 2 games against SJ left...

Yeah, it hits a bit different when someone dies out of nowhere when living their normal life as compared to someone you knew was ill.
Just never know with life. 67. Some people are now just retiring at that age and expect 15-20 more years.

Millen was a tough listen when he started. Disappointment seemed to be his main reaction to games -- like a beleaguered gym teacher, shaking his head at the stupid students. Once he learned to be critical without the arrogant tone, he got much better. Sad to see he passed.

Rangers looks to be done, Miller sure has done wonders in that locker room
They lost again last night. Habs magic number on NYR was 7 points. Combo of Habs getting points and Rags not securing points is now down to 5. They still trail Cal/Van/Utah in points.

Question is almost now, what was the official conditions of that trade to Van. Does NYR get to decide if they wish to protect the 2024 pick since it's likely top 13 or whether it's an automatic protection since it's top 13, and the 2025 first goes to Pitt.

Good for Montreal.
Same club team as Carolina’s Nikushin. Haven’t seen him sign yet. 23, so he’s still a 2 year elc which I assume he can but a year if he signs before the end of this regular season and plays.
