caught a bit of the la-winnipeg game and came away fairly impressed with kuzmenko, tbh. he's a perfect complement to two play driving beasts in kempe and kopitar, despite the unfortunate acronym of their line.
on holloway - while he's definitely better than ardvidsson or skinner who replaced him, i don't think he could ever have had this level up in edmonton, even if he was stapled to draisaitl's wing. he'd also do a lot better than pod, and with corey perry as their fifth highest scoring forward, edmonton obviously made a massive blunder letting him go. but there's a takeaway in our roster thread that there's some value to be unlocked in chasing 23-24 year old rfa's that are pushed down their lineup, and i don't know if that's necessarily true.
this is coming from a gut feel moreso than any actual data i've validated, but my sense is that coaches, broadly speaking, aren't dinosaurs like they were 15 years ago or whatever. which is why we see guys like pavel dorofeyev in vegas up to 32 goals at age 24, after generally being a no-name bottom of the lineup player the last two years. point being, if a player is showing well, regardless of age, they tend to be able to push up the lineup. holloway was simply not that player last season, and i can understand why edmonton didn't want to overspend at all on someone they figured would be an 8th or 9th forward. smart teams like tampa and vegas operate that way regularly.
