Subban has got to the most polarizing character in hockey. Sometimes I love him and sometimes I hate his guts.

That sums him up perfectly. Pretty awesome when someone new to being loaded stays grounded like this. I might never hate on him again ha.

He deserves it. How in the hell are you late?

And this isn't a walk in 5 minutes late ordeal, I'm sure. Clearly he was significantly late.

He's got skill, but he needs to get his head out of his ass, and grow up.

Good on the Isles. Who the hell comes late on the 1st ****ing day as a rookie? Even 5 seconds late and your ass is shipped home.

Maybe he was just 5 minutes late. The expectation should be that he's there an hour early, and the Islanders could understandably be taking a harsh stance to teach him a lesson.

I heard Burke say this one time and I've always kind of kept it close...

"If you should up on time, you're late... In this business, on time is being at least 15 minutes early"

Doesn't work for everyone but I know I manage some people and it drives me crazy when they stroll in right as they are supposed to start their shift.

I think since Kessel is no longer a Maple Leaf he might get more respect and looked on more favorably by fans of other teams just because of that. When Leafs fans called him elite I remember fans of other teams saying no he was not.

yup.

and i know that Leaf fans were always talking about his playmaking. Even Simmons and Feschuk who poop on him the most rave about his playmaking.

ultimately, what people are going to make this into is that the Leafs made a horrible mistake trading him. which - quite frankly, no. we're going into a new direction, and he needed to leave for that (everything else are just ice cream sundae toppings).

How embarassing

It's a little bit embarassing, and like some said it is his second camp. He should have known better.

BUT for all intents and purposes he's been the model of character this offseason and up to this point Isles management was apparently super pleased with him.

He was apart of the Biosteel camp, he was flying out to Long Island to work on a charity over the summer, was apparently a model citizen at the prospect camp all last week, and was apart of an Isles golf outing event a few days ago.

So I suspect the Islanders probably had a talk with him last year about his apparent attitude issues (which I've always been a little iiffy on the severity everyone else was convinced of), and this was his response. He's late, and the Isles say "well you've done a good job but that doesn't excuse you from this. Go home and come back next year and continue to show us that you can be a professional".

I think given Ho-Sang's actions this summer, he'll learn. And I'd love to see him shred the OHL with Niagara this year.

I see it kind of like the Thornton deal with potential to be more like the Nash deal. It's a deal where the team trading the big star needed a fresh start/culture and the only way to do that was to trade the big player on the team; that being Kessel.

I think this deal at best works out in both team's favours but has a good shot at looking like a dissapointment for the Leafs (though still not a brutal deal). Kessel will always be the best player in that deal through and through I think, but the Leafs cleared cap space, were able to start building a new team culture, and were able to add prospects/picks to the rebuid.

Crosby on Kessel

I found these comments interesting by Crosby on Kessel today in the Sun.

In Crosby’s mind, the uber-skilled winger is too often overlooked when discussions of the game’s elite are brought up.

“I think that’s fair to say,” Crosby said. “I think even his playmaking ability is underrated, but he does a lot of things well. His speed and shot stick out the most.

“We’re excited to have him. I think (fellow centre Evgeni Malkin) and I are both going to see some time with him. We’ll see what happens.

“Regardless of who he plays with, he’s a great player. Guys who can score like that aren’t easy to come by, so it’s nice to have him. We’ll see how things end up.”

Will Kessel knock it out of the park this year? Or are expectations too hgh.

that's how i see it too.
what will be intriguing to see if Pittsburgh unlike San Jose can shake it off.
