I actually don't know about that. It's too late in the regular season to put him on LTIR, so they can't go over the cap.

Which is why Vegas was trying not to have him get his surgery yet.

I could be wrong though. LTIR always confused me.
LTIR doesnt confuse Tampa, they know exactly how to use it.. something must be wrong with the CBA if you can blow out your cap by as much as they did and still be good to go in the playoffs (like they did last year)

If guys start suddenly coming off LTIR for Vegas it will be a huge slap in the face to the league, I hope they do it and solidify their clown status.

I thought I read that they don’t have any cap room and their backup goalie from Henderson is being called up on an emergency basis, which I guess has some cap implications.

Good, f*** em.

They deserve Thompson and EBUG to close out their season for trying to play the game and mismanagement.

(that being said as much as I hate vegas I really like Logan Thompson and think he's gonna be their long term option. Not as good as Fleury but a workload starter imo).

They're not the first team to do it. The Kings did it with Gaborik too. I think TPTB had a chance recently to try and do something about this loophole, and everyone, or at least enough of them, chose not to. I guess it's kind of like player safety issues. If the PA isn't going to let the league do what it needs to do to keep these idiots safe from each other, then why do I care if someone gets hit from behind? Bring back the violence. It makes game 53 of the season more interesting.

The teams are always one step ahead of the CBA, going all the way back to Wade Redden being put in the AHL. They closed that loophole and then the LTIR one happened. They will close the LTIR playoffs loophole and another one will be found.

I do find it a bit funny how everyone criticizes Tampa and Vegas (and they do deserve it) but then are fine with their teams trading guys on LTIR to Arizona, Ottawa and Florida (until recently) so they can all cheat the system. Remember most on this board were solidly behind Lombardi when he tried to get out from the worst contract in the league by doing something he wouldn't have done with any other player on the roster while denying a man $30m in owed compensation.

I generally like the job Gary Bettman (or should I say Gary Batman) has done, but he absolutely should have handed out stiff penalties to teams who pulled this crap, it is damaging to the league.
