Blake already signed an extension earlier this year. He's our GM moving forward no matter what happens this year. Why are you guys even discussing this? Are you not paying attention ? AGAIN,HE JUST SIGNED AN EXTENSION.

Now Tmac on the other handdd.....
Has that report by the mayor been confirmed by anyone else?

that is kind of amusing, i never thought about it but that was a hoven tweet that said "will be made official by the team in a few days" but i can't find anything official, everything else just quoted hoven

i dunno, i'm hot and cold on blake but i'm way more cold on tmac, i think a playoff miss would validate a tmac firing. next season is do or die for both of them though if they both stay

I that because you think the Kings were supposed to be playoff bound on game 1 of the season, or the idea that they choked it away in the last month?

All this talk about Blake and/or Todd being fired if the Kings miss the playoffs is BS. The reason why they are in this playoff race is because of these two guys and losing several key players to injuries has been tough. If you would have told me that Drew and Anderson would be out for an extended period of time, I would have said the season would be over. Compound that with all the other injured players and given the fact we are still in a playoff spot, these guys have done a nice job. Do I agree with all the moves Blake has made - No. Does Todd piss me off with how he slots some of the players, absolutely. But firing them? No F’ing way. This team is on target for becoming a contender in the next couple of years. Todd has implemented a sound system and Blake has rebuilt our prospect pool. This final stretch of games (and possibly a playoff round or two) will do wonders on growing this team.

GMs still get replaced often while on the payroll. They get assigned to other duties.

Sorry if this is news to you.

Edit: I'll add he likely won't be fired. Just that I think he should.

I think Blake has done a relatively good job as GM, but TMac is just an average coach.

It's ridiculous that some in the hockey media think Todd should be coach of the year. Meanwhile there's a coach in Calgary who seems to be doing a pretty good job.

Folks calling for Blake to be fired need to look around the league at the insanity of half the other GMs. No one here is saying he’s perfect, but he’s better than average by a long shot. There are 11 new GMs between now and the March 2020 GMs meeting. It’s a fairly high turnover position, and most end up being awful. As mentioned above, Blake put together a 2nd line that possession and chance-wise is being mentioned in the same breath as the Bruins and Avs’ top 6 and he basically did it for free! The last time a GM did anything similar it was Sakic with Kadri, Burakovsky, and Donskoi a few years back, and the Danault line has dominated possession even more than they did since they were assembled. I also think it’s crazy how quickly people have taken for granted how well our young blue line has stepped up. Many teams would kill for that type of RD depth, especially given all of our veteran injuries.

I know folks on this board love Yanetti, but maybe we should be looking at our forward scouting and development more. I agree special teams is a joke (Sturm needs to be fired), but TMac’s system has the Kings in the top 10 of expected goals and offensive possession/rush chance stats. For whatever reason, we don’t have the horses to finish, and while I still believe in our prospects coming up, they’re for the most part not showing finishing ability aside from Kaliyev. And I get it, Blake hires all those people, but he kept many of them from the previous regime, and even if forwards aren’t hitting, our defense prospects sure as hell are.

Blake is the 9th Kings GM and has the fifth most games. He’s also second to last in playoff appearances. The only person he’s better than is Sam The Disaster McMaster.

Blake has build the best prospect pool in the league , Tmac is being talked about the Jack Adams Trophy . LA is one of the leaders in man games lost and still in the playoff hunt ( who had LA in the playoff race at the start of the season ? ) Now is not the time to panic about LA leadership group ( yes there is plenty to complain about - PP/PK to start ).

The worst elements of scouting and development from the DL era still linger within the Kings scouting team. Yes a lot of it can be attributed to poor development choices (Turcotte & QB) and some bad luck (Vilardi) but there were poor evaluation choices here that would have been poor regardless. Even if Vilardi had been healthy he never would have been doing what the next 3 centers taken after him are currently doing in the NHL. Even had Turcotte stayed at Wisconsin he was never going to be the type of game breaking offensive player that Zegras, Caufield and Boldy are quickly becoming in the NHL, the types of players you should be targeting with a pick that high. There has always been a big issue with the Yanetti scouting team when it comes to properly evaluating elite offensive players, and it still exists even with a different guy in charge.

Please elaborate what you consider "development choices" ? How do the injuries [ remember those ] factor into this? Are you even counting them or are you just skipping that part and focusing on why they aren't playing 15 min a night and scoring 40 points . Injuries have hurt them, injuries have not factored in with the other prospects you mentioned. You still have yet to explain what you considered "good to great development". Every team has a different way to approach it, there is no exact way.

Now let's hop in the time machine and say they drafted Zegras...where does he play... 3rd or 4th line, not the 2nd line like he is right now, getting top minutes, that's Danaults spot. Byfield [injured, remember that] and Valardi had the 3rd spot to start the year, so that only leaves the 4th, which is taken by Lizzotte. See where I'm going with this? If you think he'd step right in like he did with the Ducks and do the same thing here , you're mistaken. The same options aren't there, like they were Anaheim.

I’m at the MN vs Oilers game. MN dominate 5/5 but trying to make the perfect play and over passing a little. They also fired wide/over on several grade A chances.

1-0 to MN after 1.

A luxury tax defeats the purpose of a hard cap. So does this, but at least the guys aren't playing.

It does show that human nature does not want to be limited though. It does show that nobody really likes the cap. Arizona bends the rules as much as Vegas, but nobody really cares when they have a retired Pronger on the books.

Since everyone will push the limits, and pretty much break at least the spirit of the rules when they deem it necessary, they might as well just get rid of the cap. It just makes player movement boring. Too many guys locked into too many huge deals.

I love the cap and hate the circumvention tactics other teams take, even Arizona.

I think people forget why the cap was instilled in the first place.
