You can see the Flames are playing as one unit and the Oilers are a bunch of individuals wearing the same uniform. Makes a difference.

No one did anything to Lucic after he slashed Koskinen's glove well after the whistle or when he just steam-rolled their 20 year old defenseman Broberg.

I think 20-30 years ago an NHL team might trade Draisaitl to try and change things up and add more balance to the team, but those kinds of deals never happen anymore. Plus his contract is so damn cheap.

What do you think the odds are that McDavid eventually gets traded while on his current contract?

It's not as far fetched as you might think.

I think it would have to be a situation where he asks out, even if the Oilers were to go along with it they could atleast plead innocence and make him look like the bad guy. The problem is his cap hit is a ton so it's hard to just unload him for prospects and picks and if you want established players back it's tough because no one wants to play in Edmonton.

I think as long as both guys want to be there they are probably better off trying to find the right pieces around them or die trying.

BTW. Since Edmonton won in LA to pass the Kings in the standings they are 4-5-1 and the Kings are 8-2-0

I foresee a Rick Nash / Jack Eichel type situation.

Nash wanted out, but didn't want fans to know he requested a trade. Tried to keep it a secret. The whole Eichel injury situation always just felt like an excuse to get out of Buffalo.

When you're a great player, and you're wasting away prime years in a inept organization, it becomes miserable. You get burned out and the situation becomes untenable. Something's gotta give eventually.

If they miss the playoffs this year, and are on track to miss again next year, tension will start building.

Both him and Drai look miserable already.

Yeah but what's a little losing when you get to live in a luxurious igloo out on the tundra.

I think McDavid will stay longer than Drai. Drai is a UFA a year earlier than McDavid, a year older, and somewhat buried under McDavid's shadow. If Edmonton is still in the same hole they are now a year from now, Drai may just force his way out. It's pretty clear he wants to win more than anyone (not saying McDavid doesn't, just he's able to hide his frustration much better than Drai has).

Eh, kinda reminds me of all those years people were certain that Pittsburgh would move Malkin.

Imagine having the top two leading scorers in the NHL, who will both likely hit 100+ points, and somehow missing the playoffs with those two. Has that ever happened before?

I liked the Hyman signing (still do) but how you can go with a Smith-Koiskinen tandem and think it'll work is beyond me. Banking arguably the most important role on your team on a 40-year-old is almost guaranteed to fail.

Edmonton's biggest issues are depth and goaltending.
They could fix them by dealing Leon.
Hart, Provorov, Konecny for Leon, Barrie (for cap), plus a pick....is that outrageous? I don't think flyers would do it, but I also do not think it is too outrageous.

But do you need to give up one of the best players in the game to get depth?

Kings got Danault, Moore, Arvidsson, Lemiux, Lizzotte, Iafallo, Petersen and Maatta for basically nothing.

Despite having cap issues and lack of picks, the Pens always figure out way to get depth.

They did it before and got a cup in 2 years.

Since January 23rd when the Kings hit the road for that first trip after losing 3 in a row.

12-3-2 overall
11-1-2 on road

Only Colorado, Tampa and unfortunately Calgary have been better.

The Kings lost ground in the divisional race in that same time as Calgary has gone 16-2-1. Very unlucky that this run did not put the Kings in real contention for the division.

Kings just need to keep chugging along and doing their thing. They probably won’t catch Calgary, but all that really matters is making the playoffs.

Edmonton and Nashville have two of the five hardest remaining schedules, while Dallas, Calgary, Vegas, and LA are in the ten easiest.

All that matters is beating one of them.
