I am.
In a world.
Of shit.

Assuming this is legitimate and current, it is the get of the century for the entire Edmonton media market. In LA, this story’s equivalent for a Kings player wouldn’t rank on the least viewed TMZ page on a day when a fancy dog is stolen from a nano influencer.

Yeah, this is the Canadian equivalent of a Laker doing blow off hookers in the middle of Chick Hearn Ct

...also 31 years of age, with a gas tank that has to be approaching empty, and at $7+ a gallon, I don't want the Kings paying to fill it.

Good get for a team with cap space, close to contending, on a 2-year deal.
Justin Williams was 28 during his first full season with the Kings and 30 and 32 when he lifted the Cup with the Kings. The Kings have the cap space. Signing a vet like Palat would certainly signal that the Kings are building for a playoff run. The big issue is term. Is Palat looking for a retirement contract? What teams want him long term? If I were Blake I'd offer 3, but maybe go to 4.

Ultimately I doubt the Kings will be the team to land Palat, but whoever does will get a proven playoff performer who has lifted the Cup twice, maybe on his way to a third time. Part of Lombardi's success was identifying key big game performers (Richards, Williams, Scuderi) to add to a up and coming young core to turn the team into contenders. I believe that Phillip Danault is such a player. Palat could also be that type of player.

I love seeing other top level athletes look at the Stanley Cup. There's something about it that they all 'get'. No one does that with any of the other trophies. You can see the respect Lebron has for it. Looking at the names on it. Tapping it goodbye. That recognition that EVERYONE has for it is always cool to see.
Given that he has a stake in Fenway Sports Group as a part-owner, I wonder if we'll ever see him get to raise a non-NBA championship trophy after a Red Sox or Penguins win. The owners and extended staff usually have the privilege of doing so, so I don't see why not. It would be pretty crazy to see, but also kind of cool as you mention.

I'm not denying that Tampa is a great team, but I still refer to them as COVID Cup champs. Yeah, I'm petty. Would I feel that way if the Kings won these past two years, probably not. So, I'm also a hypocrite. I'm also not a fan of how Kucherov miraculously came back from injury in time for the playoffs and I'm finding a lot of their players to be unlikable. Didn't Hedman give Clifford a concussion and faced no discipline for it? That said, if Tampa wins this year, I'll probably acknowledge it as legit. Maybe.
