I havent followed what happened to him in FL or Vegas - can you give me a quick rundown? I always thought he was a solid coach plus he looks fierce
Florida his dismissal was poorly handled. Won Jack Adams setting a panther points record, next year new GM comes in and turfs him 20 odd games in, What's worse is they did it on the team bus and left him on the side of the road with his luggage to take a cab. Vegas he took the team to the finals, and then the conference finals, than got axed because the owner liked Deboer better and San Jose fire him.

I still feel for Jack Johnson and I'm a little surprised he never broke more than 42 points. In some alternate universe there's a team using him as a PP specialist and he's routinely cracking 50 while being ok defensively on a 2nd pairing somewhere. Bummed he was a 'no toolbox' player and it's sad because he was a super likeable and friendly guy, very approachable, got a bad rap and it turned out to be his parents all along. Would be a nice redemption story if he could play his bag off these last two rounds.

Thank you. I do remember the side of the road thing now.. that was classless. That smacks of the hockey equivalent of a mob-hit. He must have pissed someone off. It wouldve been cool if he couldve knock out FLA this year. Still he is alive and they got swept - that has to feel pretty good.

Remember when LA traded Conroy to Calgary. It was Sean Burke's birthday and they were at Bower Ponds in Red Deer as the team was travelling between Edmonton and Calgary. Instead of letting him ride to Calgary with the team he had to find his own way from Red Deer.
Always thought that was both funny and kinda classless of LA.

I think the alternate history is him being on a team that actually makes the playoffs. Of course, one could argue that the teams he was on didn't make the playoffs because he was getting minutes.

16 year career but let's turf his "rookie" five game season in LA and his 2021 season of 13 games with the Rangers. So a 14 year career and he's only played in 33 total playoff games. He's only been in the playoffs seven times so do the math on how often he has gotten out of the first round. This might be the first time he has and he's only playing due to injury...don't even think he played in Round 1.

Anyways, the point is that he finally made the playoffs in LA and then got moved for the final piece of the Kings puzzle, going to a team that would then miss the playoffs for the next two seasons, make it once and then not make them again for another three seasons. In LA, he was a PPG over 12 games in the playoffs while playing 23 minutes a night. In Columbus, he's 9 points in 11 games while playing 28 (!) minutes a night.

Those numbers pretty much demolish his regular season totals and support the eye test that told you "Jack Johnson plays differently in big games". By the time he got to Pittsburgh though, he was pretty much done. Would have been nice to see him get more cracks at playoff games during his 20s.

I'm not a fan of any of the remaining teams. Both ECF teams are a huge pass and Edmonton goes without saying. The born on 3rd, think they hit a triple Avs fans have suffered a lot since dominating right out of the gate so they are the choice to stomach at this point: it would be cool for Johnson to get a Cup after all that he's been through.

Would personally be hilarious for me as well if MacDermid could get his name on the Cup after all the shit he has been given on this Board.

I'm of the opinion that the Rags got fortunate that both Carolina and Pittsburgh with both their starting goalies out injured. I'm very curious to see how they'll do against a back to back Stanley cup champion.

Hmm that's a very weird call. So because Makar pushed it over the blue line but didn't touch it until his teammate touched up that's not offsides? He's clearing carrying it over the line though. That's a bad call.

Wow, interesting onside due to the tag up rule. Makar touches that puck outside the blue line then doesn't touch it again until he is about 3 feet inside the blue line and the other Avs player has tagged up.

Best part though, LULZ Smith!

Yeah, no different than dumping the puck in and waiting for your guy to tag up. The smooth-brains on the main board are having an absolute meltdown though.

It became a delayed offside rather than a standard offside so once Nich was back onside, Makar was clear to touch without having to back to the line.

It's pretty obvious he was carrying it in though right? I get it wasn't on his stick that very second his teammate was still offside but he's still carrying it in with control.

Smith is going to have a GAA of over 12.00 in Game 1. He's a beauty!

The Avs are going to score a billion goals against that defense
The Edmonton net behind Smith is a puck sucking vortex.

McDavid will probably win a game or two for the Oilers, but tonight he has been awfully quite.

Oilers are going to get swept if he doesn't wake up. Oilers look completely outclassed.

I want to think Colorado is going to win this series easily but their defense kind of sucks too. And Kuemper might miss games.

A little creative license going on there. When he was traded the Kings weren't in a playoff spot. And, one could reasonably conclude that had he stayed they would have been just another regular season failure.
