They have more than enough offensive talent. d talent is better than average but not great...Ekblad Forsling Gudas Haag..(edit: Weegar) ehh. They maybe need a new system, they give up way too many high quality chances. They need to study TB alot more obviously for next year - they didnt seem to have any answers.

I do wonder if Burnette stays as coach. He did a great job in the regular season and maybe he will learn on the job, but the Cats are right there talent wise, so they might not have time to wait for him to get up to speed.

Agreed. Quennville prob had the goods to get them there in the playoffs. Burnette did well to absorb the weirdness and have them win lots of games.. but as DS has frequently pointed out the playoffs are a different season, and as a coach you need experience for that

Fun fact, Oilers did not lose to the Avs in regulation this year
Thats an interesting stat. Shifting topic - None of the remaining goalies in the West look extra sharp. Markstrom looks unbelievably bad - I thought he would outplay the hacker, but he hasnt. In the end if this keeps up, its Avs Oilers - and I do think the Avs will take it besides what happened in the regular season. Edm has too many head cases Kane, Smyth, Nurse.. that will cost them dearly before too long. In the East, Shesterkin and Vasilevsky look the best. If NYR get through, it will be good matchup w TB. In the end I think its what most predict, TB vs Avs.. If Kuemper plays above average, I think Avs win it.

Makes you wonder what kind of butterfly effect keeping Cernak would have had on drafting, too, considering all the RHD in the system and guys like Faber in particular

It would be so nice if you could view alternate realities on youtube :)

not saying you forgot, but people tend to forget the Lombardi logic was that the 7th rounder had caught the 2nd rounder on the depth chart, or at least made him expendable. Of course, the difference between Cernak and Roy today are the 50+ playoff games Cernak has for the Lightning over 4 years.

it would be nice to view an alternate reality of Roy in Tampa and what does or doesn’t develop from the 50+ playoff games he gets

Out of all the prospects, Cernak turned out was the best of the lot. DL just couldn't let go of those can't miss dmen in Gravel and LaDue. Man his evaluating ablility went down hill once they won the cups. He became his own worse enemy.

I think the Oilers will win the cup. Tampa will get killed giving up 50 shots to the Oilers.
The coilers stock is high - riding the self esteem of winning a 7 game series.. But lets not forget their psyche is fragile - they have around 4 panicky players that might do something stupid when you least expect it and send them into a rathole. I believe they look great because Markstrom looks likes shit. Lets see how the series pans out before we crown the coilers.

I didnt know that. Thats an interesting tidbit of info.. Where did u learn that? - guessing from some interview with DL?

I kept thinking the same thing but through the first 3 plus weeks of the playoffs Smith and Kane continue to frustrate their critics.

Yes, believe it was mentioned by DL when he signed Roy to his ELC 3 weeks after firing Cernak into Tampa Bay. Roy‘s final year in college impressed him. It’s possibly that same interview where he mentioned that Bishop could be re-signed by the Kings.

Speaking from experience this is exactly what being of any Middle Eastern descent in hockey looks and sounds like the moment you so much as stick check someone the wrong way.

Religion, place of birth, etc. none of it matters since people who hate just throw out the same ol stereotypes. I'm not surprised that people are surprised, but sadly, I expected basically exactly the above.

No wonder the Stars took them to 7. The Flames have flamed out in this round. We could've taken them the way they're playing. Solid slew foot penalty by Toffoli leading to goal 2.
