Some guy named Al Murray had a pretty good run with the Kings at the draft, wonder what he’s been up to…

Let's just set the record straight, these are Yzerman's picks, not Murrays even though he was head scout. Had he been so good, he'd have taken ANYBODY but Danny Rousin in the 2nd round of the Crosby draft. That is just one glaring example.

It stands to reason, though, that Murray was dealing with limited resources here too.

He landed in a much better position to affect change in Tampa.

There's no question, McDavid is the best player in the league and now has the ability to carry a team on his back and single-handedly will his team to a win. The hard truth is though, he is not going to get any faster, any shifter, or any more dynamic from here - he is at his peak - which could last for many more seasons, but he's there. It could be one of the greatest tragedies in league history if he never gets a chance to win being in Edmonton his whole career, no joke :P If I were Edmonton, I would look to move significant assets for goaltending and defense.

If you build from the net out and shore up the defensive woes, McDavid can literally make any player around him better and can guarantee offense. If you go the Penguins route and have your 1-2 center punch, I would look to surrounding them with middling goal-scoring wingers and just get the best goaltender and defensemen possible and I would trade anyone or anything not named McDavid to accomplish it.

This isn't the 80's where you can keep a team together forever, and money rarely matters. It's not the 90's either, where you could buy a Cup. This is a hard cap league, and you can't waste too many dollars. If this was the 80's, McDavid would have a couple Cups already. If this was the 90's, McDavid wouldn't be in Edmonton anymore, and would probably have a Cup.

It seems so obvious to everyone but Holland but ya spot on.

I made the comparison to Mike Trout. Best in the league and a owner who cares more about international ad dollars than winning a championship. McDavid may very well come close but never get that cup until much later in his career when he finally waves his no trade and goes to a contender.

Avs gutted out a win tonight in St. Louis. Their new uniforms incorporating the light blue give them a Nordique kind of look, very nice.

Girard out for the season with that hit thunderous hit by Barbashev (suffered a broken sternum).

Apparently it's rough enough that it's "age-restricted" on YouTube. lol

Such a nasty outcome....I didn't really care for the hit itself to be honest...though I know there's nothing wrong with it, and it is playoff hockey, it just felt....like a hit determined to hurt, not just send a message etc, it just felt wrong, which, I get means jack shit....but still....

I mean, that's kind of the point of making a big legal hit. You're not doing it for their health. But you can't say that out loud of course.

Oh I agree....and 20 years ago, that was me....I remember hitting a guy at the old West Valley rink, lifting him up and dropping his side on the bench boards etc, could be me getting old and soft now, I just don't like how he came up behind him, then switched, it wasn't from behind, but it almost felt like a blindside hit but wasn't technically.....
