Vegas on their 3rd coach in 5 years. The worst thing to happen to them was the early success. The bar is set so high now there's no room to fail. They will be the Cowboys of the NHL , with no championships.

Love the way Doughty and Hoven are holding on to relevance and ignoring that this team made the playoffs and almost made it to round 2 without Doughty. A real journalist would of asked the coach about the kids and why they sat on their hands when neither team (AHL or NHL) played them in critical games.

No need to waste precious face time on the tough questions. All the PR staff get an email with the talking points to put out on their podcasts.

I don’t know a lot about the Avs except it feels like they drafted their entire roster….how far off is that? How did they build their team?

They got guys like Girard Toews Nichuskin Kadri and Burakovsky for good prices while the rest of the league was sleeping on the job. They tried other low risk high rewards like Nieto and Yakupov that didnt pan out but a thats a nice chunk of the roster that has stuck.
They drafted some great players that elevated their game and everyone around them. They are playing at an insane pace the last couple years.

Rantanen, MacKinnon, Makar, Landeskog, Newhook. Heck of a drafted core, but guys like Kadri, Burakovsky, Toews, Nichushkin, Compher, Girard, and Kuemper were all drafted by other teams.

When MacKinnon broke in he was allowed to play his game and learn how to defend only after establishing himself as a scoring threat. That Avs team's oldest top 6 forward was 28. Duchene, O'Reilly, Landeskog were all 23 or younger, nobody needed to defer to the wishes of older stare on retirement contracts. Stastny at 28 was their oldest top player.

Rantanen, the same. One year in the AHL then immediately into a top 6 spot. No need to spend a year digging pucks out of the corner.

They drafted the hell out of their blueline. They haven't won anything yet, but they are a terrific example of a rebuild done without compromise and an organization that benefited from being fully committed to it even though they had won Cups in the not too distant past.

They weren't afraid to trade Duchene when it was clear that it needed to be MacKinnon's team in order to progress.

When I checked the scored in the Tampa v. Florida game it was 2-2.

I checked back later and the final score was 4-1.

So the second goal got wiped out because the puck hit the netting before coming back into play and one of the Florida players shot it in. It happened so fast, the refs didn't see it, but after review it was overturned.

Didn't it take Sakic forever to trade Duchene? Sitting on his hands, too scared to pull the trigger, waiting for the "right deal" to come along. I might be wrong, but I'm almost sure there was a lot of criticism toward Sakic for letting a guy who didn't want to be there fester. Then he got his great deal, but only because Ottawa happened to go into the crapper after making that trade.

Yep - Sakic is sure looking good now, eh?
