next thing you know they'll use nepotism and a social climate to catapult themselves to a job they can't handle! oh wait.

she sucks at her job, just because you state it doesn't mean you're a misogynist. she's good at color and reporting, she's way over her head for a national PBP

I'm pretty apathetic about her, but one thing in OT was that she was so casual on the call when Moore came in on goal early on. That could have easily been the game winner and it would've ended in manufactured excitement after the fact. She wouldn't be the only PBP announcer guilty of that, but it's sudden death OT for cripesakes.

was routing for her but I agree that she is not a good play by play. My 7 year old daughter often comments about how many men compared to women are on the broadcasts, and there is some logic for ex-players and what not that I can explain. I can see she enjoys the games more the more female voices there are. Thought it was mostly fluff till I had kids.
I want a female play by play...i just do not want it to be Leah

I really didn’t have an issue with Hextall calling the game. What made Thorne and Bob great was how well they knew the game and players on the ice. There’s always a story to tell.

My only criticism of Hextall/Moore is they focused too much on McDavid/Drai. During OT, her and Moore opined that Drai would be a good bet to get a hat trick on the super line (I guess that is what they call the Drai/McD line?).
I agree, but the average sports fan, especially the younger ones who they are targeting, are just obsessed with wall to wall coverage of stars and not digging deeper on other players. ESPN’s obsession with Lebron, the LA medias cult like worship of Kobe. Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes etc.

As a college hockey fan I always enjoyed hearing Bob mention where a guy went to school “Pass over to Chris Chelios, the Chicago native played 2 years at the University of Wisconsin” Just a small thing I liked, and Bob did it for everyone, from Chris Chelios to Tony Hrkac.

ESPN and TNT have their own narratives they want to push, and clearly McDavid’s quest to drop the playoff failure label is high up there, way higher than the gritty long shot team that doesn’t have a true 1st line forward or 1st pair defenseman.

If the Kings win tomorrow they will get about 25% of the post-game commentary (probably how they have no shot vs Calgary) while the rest is discussing the Oilers and McDavid specifically.

Little bit of old news that might have been posted earlier. Nice to have some more local options for the California kids who want to pursue NCAA scholarships. I'm friends of friends of Thatcher Demko, Chad Ruhwedel, and former Nashville pick Tyler Moy. They had to log a lot of miles for better competition and move to the midwest.

I think she does a good job with the PXP in a lot of ways.
She gets some names wrong with surprising frequency though.
And it's pretty obvious she was rooting for the Oil last night - she's a Manitoba girl. You could hear her enthusiasm for the Oilers last night. Fine.

She also uses words that don't feel like hockey. Pucks don't "float" down the ice.

Where she excels:
Her voice rides the wave of the game action like a skilled surfer.

Some douchebags are yelling and embellishing when nothing is happening.

The audio (mix and fidelity) on the TNT feed has been terrible.
I noticed on both ESPN and TNT the main camera is on a 2 second delay compared to the corner or any other camera for that matter. On a drive to the net they switch to the corner camera from the main camera the play has already happened, or you will hear a "clink" of the post from a shot and then see it a few seconds later.

Leah is not that bad. Her cadence is a little jumpy compared to her male counterparts, but I'd take her over quite a few PBP announcers in the league.....for example, Avs announcers that sounds like he wants to commit suicide everytime the Avs are scored on, or the NJD announcer who probably sits on a toilet when the Devils score cause it sounds like he's about to shit everything out.

I don't think she's very good right now. I'm sure she'll eventually get better, but I don't think she was experienced/capable enough to handle a national broadcast at this time.

I'm all for equality, and I was rooting for her being the pioneer as a woman having this opportunity. But, after hearing her, I wish another woman had the opportunity; Hextall could have spent more time on a local broadcast or radio to start building a rhythm and experience.

There are bigger homers for certain. I just don't think "not the worst" is a ringing endorsement, considering the significance.

I think she is bad..those others are bad too, but they are not national play by play.
There are a lot of shit commentators to be honest, but there are also a lot of good ones, and I am sure there are more good ones waiting for a break. So it sucks when a bad one is clogging (New Jersey guy) up a spot.

They can beat Calgary.
Things don't get dicey until the conference finals.
have to think LA, Dallas, Edmonton and Calgary all like their chances if they get out of round 1

I've been having this issue with the Bally feed all year. About a half second delay.

Its mind numbing. Faust will call the play before it happens. Fox does his "OHHHH" before a hit or goal. Absolutely infuriating.

Even inside Crypto in the concourse the TV's are delayed with Nickson's PBP.

Even my wife came in the room last night and said she can't handle it anymore -- put that freaking chick on mute! For the playoffs, she gets too nervous (especially around me yelling) and listens to the game from the other room. She watched with me once we muted it. The silence was music to my ears.

The ESPN productions have been substandard in my opinion. They tend to gloss over important events in the game and their choices of what to show a replay on is really poor (i.e. the first LA penalty for tripping last night was never shown in a replay). Yet they showed 2 different replays of a McDavid rush that led to nothing.

For Leah, I honestly didn't mind her in the regular season, but last night was too much. It sounded like she was reading a script of the action rather than calling it as it happened. Maybe it was the Oiler bias coming through but in general, her tone and inflections (and often the lack of either) was tough to listen to.

Kings could certainly beat Calgary or Dallas, but they still need to get through Edmonton first.

If St. Louis beats Minnesota and then somehow Colorado too, I could see that being a good matchup too. I definitely don't see us beating Minnesota or Colorado though.

There is a delay for sure between the call and the action on tv. Not sure if it's an FCC thing where they have to have a build in delay for swearing or other things.

That is funny man.

There is a delay due to advertisements. On the main camera feeds where you can see the "virtual" advertisements on the glass behind the goals or on the ice or boards, the feed is sent to a video advertising processing system which introduces the delay. The undelayed video feeds are the close-up ones. The camera feeds with ads have a slight delay, but it is noticable.

You're right about that. I can't think of a good compelling story line for the Kings that national broadcasters can really push. Kopitar is not the dominant player he was 10 years ago. Dustin Brown riding off into the sunset? Meh. Doughty is out for the season. Hard to push Danault's defensive game. Byfield could be a budding star, but he isn't even playing right now.

You can't blame the play-by-play, color commentators, or studio for focusing on McDavid and Draisaitl compared to a team of nobodies.
