Maybe not so much a misquote since Jack definitely said "bad team" but more inferring too much as in "the 2020-21 Canucks were a bad team" vs. "The Canucks are currently and in the future are a bad team." He also said Quinn loves it in Vancouver when the other reporters asked about whether the Hughes brothers were conspiring to unite.
Blame social media and people's tendencies to want to comment based off of a headline without reading the whole article / listening to the whole interview. Unfortunately I don't think that's limited to a particular fan base. Also doesn't help when the various other podcasts also pick up on it and post clickbait headlines of their own.
I remember this one time Darren Dreger was doing his weekly radio interview with TSN Vancouver. They talked about the 2017 Draft for a couple minutes of a 20+ minute segment. The previous day, Philly GM Ron Hextall made an innocuous statement about listening to offers on the #2 pick since it was his job but that he didn't anticipate moving it. I think the TSN Vancouver interview went something like:
Host: Have you heard anything about Vancouver moving up (from #5) in the Draft?
Dreger: I wouldn't be surprised if they kicked the tires, but I don't think New Jersey or Philadelphia is moving their pick.
Subsequent TSN headline went something like: Dreger - "I wouldn't be surprised" if top picks are in play.
The headline implied the complete opposite of what Dreger said. But naturally HF ran with the headline and assumed the Devils/Flyers were looking to trade out. Unfortunately social media teams are going to do what they can to maximize the number of views/comments/etc.
