Someone better versed in the CBA would be able to answer this better than me, but could it be they needed Fleury's cap space off their books, and it was a must.Fleury found out about trade on twitter! Man when is how Vegas treats its players going to catch up with them. Their management seems pretty cut throat.
Everyone is saying this is a good deal, but it seems like a lot for a guy who hasn't done much yet.
The real issue for Vancouver now is they have to re-sign Pettersson and Hughes. That may take up 13M-16M in cap space.
After the Garland contract they have about 15M in cap space with only 15 players signed.
now that's wild, 5 years.. probably a shrewd business move all said and done though, gonna keep butts in seats there when that team inevitably falls off the cliff
yeah exactly, could probably plant him over there on the dot for one timers until he's 50 honestlyHe'll be record chasing too which should occupy the fanbase if the team goes into the shitter.
MacD to the Avs.
It's the smart move.Someone better versed in the CBA would be able to answer this better than me, but could it be they needed Fleury's cap space off their books, and it was a must.
If they talk to Fleury about it prior to the trade and he just retires immediately, what would have been the effect on Vegas' salary cap.
Many people didn't like what Lombardi did to Lubo, trading him before his NTC kicked in, but it's only business. I am sure the management team in Vegas has always liked Fleury.
The guy can't leave DC. His KGB handlers wouldn't like it.now that's wild, 5 years.. probably a shrewd business move all said and done though, gonna keep butts in seats there when that team inevitably falls off the cliff

I'm ok with dealing him but tell him before it gets outSomeone better versed in the CBA would be able to answer this better than me, but could it be they needed Fleury's cap space off their books, and it was a must.

Yeah, I didn't see that they bought out Holtby.Per CapFriendly, looks as if they are around $20 million in space after Garland. Schmidt is on his way out which should clear more space, pending what the return could be and/or if they retain any salary.
Over $13 million commited to Myers and OEL for the next 3 years isn't inspiring.
Boeser is an RFA next off-season. Wonder how that one plays out. Wouldn't be surprised if he was eventually dealt.
They got work to do.
why, waive him and if no one claims put him in the AHL where he may still get paid but his cap hit pretty much fully goes awayBuyoutville
...and then Fleury retires immediately before the deal is consummated. I am not sure about this, but I don't think Vegas gets completely off the hook for Fleury's cap hit if that had happened.I'm ok with dealing him but tell him before it gets out
