Futa on The Power Play earlier said based on everything he’s heard Kevin Adams is asking for the equivalency of 6 first round picks for Jack Eichel. A bit richer than what I proposed from the Kings - 8OA this year, first round pick next year lottery protected, Turcotte, and Kempe. That’s four, maybe add a second rounder or more pieces to include Reinhart. I don’t expect this deal to happen anytime soon, probably late summer when there’s more clarity on his health. The soft deadline of the draft just isn’t realistic. I also don’t see Anaheim making a deal, I don’t think they have the stones to do it.

6 first round picks? Jesus Christ, he's not Gretzky. F that.

Any idea as to what are the Devils doing protection wise? 7-3-1. Graves, Severson and Siegenthaler on defense. They have to be exposing Subban, would Seattle take him? They also need to ensure the maintain the floor but there is time as the offseason is just starting..

Forwards - Hischer, Zacha, Bratt, Sharangovich, Johnsson, Wood and...Bastian or McLeod?

FWIW, I had Seattle grabbing Bastian in my mock. I like Studenic too but that's more a homer view on my end as he is a former Hamilton Bulldog. They have a few interesting potential choices for Seattle to mull over at the forward position.

If I had to guess:

7F: Hischier-Zacha-Bratt-Sharangovich-Wood-Kuokkanen-McLeod
3D: Severson-Graves-Siegenthaler
1G: Blackwood
exempt: Hughes-Boqvist-Smith
available: Johnsson-Bastian-Merkley-Studenic-Subban-Butcher-Murray(UFA)

I'd think Seattle would pass on Subban's 8 mil salary (9 mil cap hit); Apparently they'd be on the hook for his 6 mil bonus as well. Not much else enticing available. Bastian was a perfectly acceptable 4th liner. Studenic was okay during his callup but I'm not sure he's a full time NHLer. Merkley might be a AAAA type forward but maybe is young enough for Seattle to think there's untapped potential. Johnsson's actual dollars are lower than his cap hit, but Seattle might view his Toronto numbers as an aberration. Butcher is expensive for what he brings. I'd be curious if they'd have interest in Ryan Murray who played his WHL hockey near the Seattle area.

Well it might be more in the sense of a guy who was a former first round pick who isn't exactly a blue chip asset today. Ryan O'Reilly got Tage Thompson, Patrik Berglund, and a future 1st when Buffalo traded him to St. Louis. A silly way to look at it would be that O'Reilly got "three first round" type assets back. Or that Buffalo gave up four "first round" assets to get O'Reilly in the first place (Zadorov, Grigorenko, Compher, 31st overall pick).

I still make fun of my Ducks friend who hated the Pronger deal initially because they had given up "like 5 first round picks" in Joffrey Lupul, Ladislav Smid, plus future picks.

Honestly I consider myself a pretty devout hockey fan and maybe it's because I haven't played fantasy hockey in a couple of years but i swear to god I have never heard that name in my life. Forgive my ignorance Devils fans but who?

Yeah, we can't just buy him! :naughty:

Yeah, he kinda came out of nowhere last year. He had a couple of nondescript AHL seasons then suddenly posted 17 goals in 34 KHL games before last season started. Ended up scoring 16 goals in 54 NHL games last year and was one of the few bright spots up front. Sharangovich spent most of the season playing on a line with Travis Zajac and Janne Kuokkanen. After Zajac/Palmieri were traded, Sharangovich/Kuokkanen were centered by Jack Hughes and were reasonably productive. Hughes spent too much of the season with Johnsson/Palmieri which just wasn't working.

Big body winger, decent shot. Maybe doesn't speak well about our current forward depth that he's a top six winger but 20-25 goals next season might not be inconceivable.

If I am Seattle I take Butcher from New Jersey

Little bit expensive at 4.1 mil in real dollars on an expiring deal. If I'm Seattle, I save that money for something else. We used Butcher correctly in his rookie season a 3rd pairing PP specialist. When he got more ice time in recent seasons, his defensive deficiencies were more apparent. He got leapfrogged by Ty Smith last season, so Butcher was a PP specialist who wasn't getting PP time. Due to injuries, Butcher finally got into the lineup later in the season and posted some offense.

Should have added: If I am Seattle I take alot of NHL D one expiring deals and flip for picks.

If they want 6 first round picks, here’s my offer:
  • Grebeshkov
  • Tambellini
  • Boyle
  • Tukonen
  • Hickey
  • Teubert
Buffalo can ask for anything, it doesn’t mean that they’ll get anything close to that, especially with Eichel’s injury concerns.

Edler is hitting the FA market. Guessing his preferene will be a contender, but most contenders do not need him and there are other options on there. Could be a guy Blake has eyes on a 2 year deal for.

Blake needs to use Seattle as a bridge to get the player he wants.

Seattle picks Player X from a 3rd party team
Player X gets traded to the Kings.

For example:
Jake Bean gets selected by Seattle
Bean Traded to the Kings for AA' rights
Seattle picks Clague.

If I'm Seattle, I would just as rather keep a guy like Bean. But I get where you are going as we saw that when Vegas did their draft picking up guys like Methot (Ottawa) and Schlemko (San Jose) only to flip them.

Looks like there will be several options on the backend come free agency.

Bogosian is another one to look at. Could be a nice physical presence who has been serviceable since he got away from Buffalo...what a coincidence. :naughty:

Pitt can only protect one of Kapanan, Tanev, Zucker.

Kapanan would be a good bridge player.

Give us a discount Ron, don’t lose him for nothing :)

If it were me:

F(7): Crosby-Malkin-Guentzel-Rust-Kapanen-Zucker-Tanev

D(3): Letang-Dumoulin-(Pettersson/Matheson)

G(1): Jarry

From the sounds of it, they're leaning towards leaving Pettersson exposed. I'd think Pettersson or McCann would be more attractive than say Jeff Carter at this point.

Sounds like Blueger is getting protected.

Thought of some interesting remarks I heard from Guerin a few months ago - he said the Wild need a massive culture change because they have an identity and reputation of being a BORING team. The pace and lack of scoring being the #1 issue. Sounds like another team we know…

Graves is a good, big, physical player that can actually play on the 2nd pairing and PK/defend. Those guys are pretty hard to find even if he's 'mediocre' he's a rare quanitty.

He was pretty good in the playoffs and I think that is a good deal for the Devils. Avs were going to lose him so they moved him and got assets. Devils have CAP space and a GM who is hungry to improve.

Take out Boyle, add Biron and a 4th...

So Buffalo isn't trading him. Got it.

I’ve heard a few journalists float Hyman to Edmonton at 6x6. Also Danault apparently turned down 5x5 last offseason. Pure lunacy…
