I've described Landeskog as an elite complementary player, a guy you don't want to lose, but don't want to pay what it would take to keep him. You love what he brings to the team, but at 30 years old, and numbers inflated playing with some world class players, a long term big money contract would be frightening. This could be a deal that really hurts the Avs in the not too distant future, I'd be careful with that one.

Totally agree, yet, why do the Avs think about the distant future? I'll guess they have 4-5 years with this current group before they have to start shedding guys like Rantanen. They'll always have Mackinnon and Makar. They cannot replace Landeskog. It's sort of like the Kings starting to lose Williams, Mitchell--sure you 'replace' their skill, production, but you're still a worse team.

personally I'd use the situation to pay him but I wouldn't give him an NTC/NMC unless he takes a drastically reduced rate.

and I would try not t give a signing bonus in years other than years 1 and 2

These GMs will never learn with these massive contracts. That Skinner deal is so bad.

It's tough, usually they're following orders from an impatient owner who wants to win now. I still remember a funny story from ~2002 during an owners meeting. I forget how it came about, but I think Boston owner Jeremy Jacobs was complaining about rising player salaries and Detroit owner Mike Illitch made a joke about Jacobs being cheap. Jacobs was pissed and commanded his GM to sign Red Wing free agent forward Martin Lapointe in the offseason to "show up" Illitch.

That's gotta sting, especially after that Cinderella run to the Cup final.

Canadiens' Shea Weber's career threatened by lingering foot, ankle problems

That deal, signed via offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers, was heavily front-loaded. There is $12M of actual cash remaining. Nashville, which matched and was where Weber played the next four years, would have a “cap recapture” penalty of slightly more than $4.9M per season through 2025-26 if the defenceman retires.

Its not just the GM's but players too. Something like 75% of the players have a career lasting about 2 years. Why they are OK with these long contracts is mind-boggling. A handful of guys (like Skinner) are sipping champagne and dining on caviar while for the bulk of the rest its franks and beans.

I HATE the Habs, but Weber is a total beast and the 1 player I actually wanted to see hoist the Cup. He wanted it bad and I bet him leaving it all out there during this run sent the injury over the top.

He's one player I"m glad went to a Canadian market because people finally appreciate his career. Before he left Nashville he had some accolades but was mostly made fun of by the 'dynamic offensive dman' fans, sort of like Doughty still is. Can you imagine the shrine to Drew if he played in Toronto last decade? That's kind of how Weber is going out, at least.

Might be why Nashville is trying to shed salary, in case Weber retires?

Would be nice if Brown misses some time(didn't he have surgery?) then comes back when rosters expand. Gives us another 6 million in cap space this summer.

This is the WORST contract in the entire league by a wide margin. No one is going to touch that with a 10 ft pole.

(Even giving away their 2022 1st round pick won't even move the needle. It's that bad and that bad the day it was inked.)

No, not talking about the band, though I saw them live quite a few times back in my punk rock dayz...

That's a flashback! Saw them a bunch in the mid nineties. I remember seeing them at the barn in riverside with NUFAN.

I only saw NUFAN at WArped Tour a few times. I remember seeing Millencolin and Pulley at The Barn. Place even looked AND smelled like barn! Aw, such memories of those Swedish tunes.

I don’t know if this is new, but it’s totally savage.

Pretty solid career and obviously very durable. Would not mind him on a one year deal. He turns 35 in September. Always liked him when he was in Arizona.

He really fell out of favour in Florida.

Boston native so you have to wonder if the Bruins will be sniffing around. I believe there were rumours of him being dealt there a few years ago.

He’d be a good fit where he can be (very) sheltered on a 3rd pair and play the PP

The players don't want the cap.

No Use for a Name.. the Barn at UCR.. you're talking about my youth and making me feel old haha

but did you see shows at Spanky’s Cafe?

Who said anything about the cap?

Apparently 25% of players are supposed to financially support the 75% who don't play long enough to build up much from playing hockey. The players never wanted to cap potential earnings for anyone. They love stupid owners spending ridiculous amounts of money.

The dingiest place in So Cal was the PCH Club in Wilmington.

I distinctly remember somebody climbing the rafters and knocking out the power which eventually got fixed.

but did you see shows at Spanky’s Cafe?

That's slightly before my time. I'm 40 years old and born in 1980. I was 15 when I started going to shows in 1995 and I think Spanky's closed right about then if I'm not mistaken. Was Spanky's owned by the same guy who ran Showcase? I really wish I was alive in the days of Fenders Ballroom and The Country Club!

One of my best memories of punk shows was seeing Rancid at the Glasshouse in 1996 (I think) and the Beastie Boys opened instead of Rocket from the Crypt (who I love) and played all their punk jams. They played under the name Quasar.

And to stay on topic, the buyouts of Weber and Parise sure are Rancid!
