I noticed Devon Toews falling off some fantasy teams.
Devon Toews has no goals , 2 assists and minus 6 and 4 hits.
Filip Hronek has no goals, 3 assists and plus 8 and 24 hits.
I remember when these comparisons were made back then, many Canucks fans, if not the majority said Toews was better. (The other is always better. The guy not on your team that you don't watch every night is always better)
I've also noticed some whining recently about Hronek not being flashy enough. At least he's a plus player and can hit. And he's having more team success as well.
Avs as a team have been disappointing. Toews deal takes him to like 37/38 IIRC. So, now is still go time for them based on their top guys. But, we talked about landy/Nuke and their unknown status. Nuke apparently has returned to practice with the team. Landy, really an uncertain possible return. Thus, Col can't really add as they'd have to make moves to be cap compliant when those 2 are ready (if they will be) some point this season.Toews is likely dealing unexplained injury. He missed a few games earlier on this season has looked really sluggish lately.
But fantasy hockey is weird. You can have a very good defenseman in real life post some mediocre fantasy stats. Heiskanen, Pietrangelo (and the Vegas blueline), Faber...
They are getting some atrocious goaltending. if it bounces back to below average, they'll probably be okay.Avs as a team have been disappointing. Toews deal takes him to like 37/38 IIRC. Watch the goal visualization and video. It's funny. Bouchard simply assumes the back checking forward who is chasing and is still pretty far away is going to have Eichel. He just slows down and takes himself completely out of the play. It's a 2 on 2 at that point...it's his man. Instead of closing the gap by keeping himself even with his partner and taking the center of the ice away, he simply creates a massive gap in every possible direction that he can! Jeff Skinner (I believe) thinking Bouchard would play his position essentially stopped backcheck to likely pick up any trailers and you can see his double take when he realized Bouchard was doing whatever he was doing. How did the Oilers manage to pull off this kind of (not) defending lmao

They should just tell Landy to wait until the playoff, let the Avs spend the 7M in season, and Landy can spend more time rehabbing to play again when the cap doesn't matter. Win-win.They said Landeskog had a setback but might still return this year. But after this long, any setbacks make it more and more likely his career is over.
If I'm the Avs, I don't want Landeskog to come back. He's not gonna be worth 7M for the remainder of that deal after 2.5 years off. Plus the salary they would need to move out to fit him in as mentioned since Nuke will be back soon
pretty much any HC is going to do that to a young player who isn't playing a 2 way game. Nip bad habits before they become the norm and thus harder to change later. We are all like that. Set in our ways of doing things. Longer you do something one way, the harder it is to change.Banking on Torts to totally ignore Michkov's inability to play 5 on 5 was a huge ask.
It's always up to the player. That's why Minny bought out Parise who kept playing to what would have been the end of his contract. Knew he wasn't going to be worth that cap charge. If Landy wants to return, Avs can't prevent that. They said Landeskog had a setback but might still return this year. But after this long, any setbacks make it more and more likely his career is over.

have to determine if the kid is at the right level. Dobson at 19 was in the NHL and played half the games only. He was playing like 30 plus minutes a game in the Q during the playoffs. So, nothing further that he could benefit returning to the Q as he needed to get stronger.I see no issue sitting a young rookie in the press box every to get a bird's eye view every 10 or so games. As long as things are being properly communicated to them that it's in the name of player development, it's probably quite beneficial tbh.
Curious if we start seeing any other teams take the more extreme Leo Carlsson route in the future.
I would think that's an ecosystem that a goalie would be wise to avoid. Jack Campbell and Skinner are cautionary tales. And not like Oilers will have spare change to throw around next season.I'm actually curious if he's going to end up an Oiler.
this is a great change imo. canadian players can play closer to home in major junior for their age 16/17/18/19 seasons and still play ncaa hockey for their age 18+ seasons. before this change american born players had the ushl (which restricts the number of roster spots available to non-americans) available for those same age seasons before they had to make the jump to the ncaa. canadians either had to play in inferior leagues in canada prior to the ncaa or had to be good enough to make the jump as soon as they were eligible
this does hurt marginal ncaa players as chl players not good enough for the ahl will likely start to make up a large fraction of ncaa players but it's overall good for the quality of the ncaa and the quality of the chl
This is amazing news for the CHL, middling news for the NCAA (the calibre of play will get stronger with the influx of 21-25 y/o ex-CHL players, but they'll lose a lot of top 18-19 y/o prospects), and absolutely terrible news for Tier II and Canadian University hockey.
i think it's good for tier 2 canadian junior too. it's not good to have a few players head and shoulders above the rest because they're blocked from playing in an age and talent appropriate league. i guess it's bad if you are a fan of a team that attracts college bound canadian 17 year olds though
it's definitely terrible for canadian university hockey but that level of play is already "ruined" by the presence of other alternatives
Ya, I agree. Junior A is basically done in terms of having any half way decent prospects. Instead, Junior A is basically going to be a league where those who aren't good enough to play in the CHL play in, other than perhaps some super outlier cases where players have a preference for location and don't like the location of the CHL team that drafted them.I don't see how.
1) they're basically guaranteed to lose any marquee players they've historically had who draw attention and sell tickets. No more Kariya, Gomez, Newhook, Kent Johnson, etc.
2) the overall level of player is going to drop significantly as there are now no barriers to any/every player going CHL.
3) those leagues are basically now just a dead-end. Historically they've had relevance as a few players on every team would normally pull mid-level NCAA scholarships. That will likely dry up in a huge way as there is now a massive pool of hundreds of superior CHL players eligible for those scholarships every year.
It's really for the players who would have a limited chance of going pro. If you are good enough most chlers go pro va go into Canadian colleges.

NCAA gives kids the chance to extend their playing careers.
For now, it is only for those who have completed their chl eligibility.
The tier 2, of bchl wont lose a Kariya and such as teens are not permitted. Maybe in time they will be but not now.
NCAA would still take premier teens over these 20/21 year olds from the chl.
