I noticed Devon Toews falling off some fantasy teams.

Devon Toews has no goals , 2 assists and minus 6 and 4 hits.

Filip Hronek has no goals, 3 assists and plus 8 and 24 hits.

I remember when these comparisons were made back then, many Canucks fans, if not the majority said Toews was better. (The other is always better. The guy not on your team that you don't watch every night is always better)

I've also noticed some whining recently about Hronek not being flashy enough. At least he's a plus player and can hit. And he's having more team success as well.

Toews is likely dealing unexplained injury. He missed a few games earlier on this season has looked really sluggish lately.

But fantasy hockey is weird. You can have a very good defenseman in real life post some mediocre fantasy stats. Heiskanen, Pietrangelo (and the Vegas blueline), Faber...

Avs as a team have been disappointing. Toews deal takes him to like 37/38 IIRC. So, now is still go time for them based on their top guys. But, we talked about landy/Nuke and their unknown status. Nuke apparently has returned to practice with the team. Landy, really an uncertain possible return. Thus, Col can't really add as they'd have to make moves to be cap compliant when those 2 are ready (if they will be) some point this season.

They are getting some atrocious goaltending. if it bounces back to below average, they'll probably be okay.

They said Landeskog had a setback but might still return this year. But after this long, any setbacks make it more and more likely his career is over.

If I'm the Avs, I don't want Landeskog to come back. He's not gonna be worth 7M for the remainder of that deal after 2.5 years off. Plus the salary they would need to move out to fit him in as mentioned since Nuke will be back soon

Watch the goal visualization and video. It's funny. Bouchard simply assumes the back checking forward who is chasing and is still pretty far away is going to have Eichel. He just slows down and takes himself completely out of the play. It's a 2 on 2 at that point...it's his man. Instead of closing the gap by keeping himself even with his partner and taking the center of the ice away, he simply creates a massive gap in every possible direction that he can! Jeff Skinner (I believe) thinking Bouchard would play his position essentially stopped backcheck to likely pick up any trailers and you can see his double take when he realized Bouchard was doing whatever he was doing.

To start the play McJesus tries to forecheck on the boards but Stone makes the out. McDavid then takes a pretty big big loop and doesn't really seem to try to get back into the play.

As soon as Eichel gets the puck all 5 Oilers go into a 2 foot glide. Sure it was a breakaway in the end (from the Oiler zone has marks not from center or anything) but you have to at least try to be there if a rebound comes out.

That play along with Skinner letting in an unscreened wrist shot from the point pretty much sums up the Oilers defensive issues. It's like the canucks under Green...limit the chances overall but when they broke down they really broke down.

Look at those blue sock players glide (the one behind the play had already given up at this point). Somewhat human nature I guess but if Skinner makes the save a hard stride or two and Ekholm can take him out before a rebound is there.

They should just tell Landy to wait until the playoff, let the Avs spend the 7M in season, and Landy can spend more time rehabbing to play again when the cap doesn't matter. Win-win.

Banking on Torts to totally ignore Michkov's inability to play 5 on 5 was a huge ask.
pretty much any HC is going to do that to a young player who isn't playing a 2 way game. Nip bad habits before they become the norm and thus harder to change later. We are all like that. Set in our ways of doing things. Longer you do something one way, the harder it is to change.

It's always up to the player. That's why Minny bought out Parise who kept playing to what would have been the end of his contract. Knew he wasn't going to be worth that cap charge. If Landy wants to return, Avs can't prevent that.

I see no issue sitting a young rookie in the press box every to get a bird's eye view every 10 or so games. As long as things are being properly communicated to them that it's in the name of player development, it's probably quite beneficial tbh.

Curious if we start seeing any other teams take the more extreme Leo Carlsson route in the future.
