Yeah I see no downside for Mongomery. They have had a couple important injuries. They have a solid farm system. They have some young players already on the squad. I can see them challenging for a wildcard this season.

People love to criticize other teams but they don't always realize the entire situation. It would be pretty hard as an owner of an older Midwest St. Louis team to just tear apart what is probably a pretty successful franchise since they won in 2019.

That's an awful lot of good players to just dumparooski all in order to purposely suck and lose revenue for 7 years. There is a lot at stake and it's not a horrible business decision.

Fans love playing video games. Real people with real money live in the real world. Rebuilds only happen as a last resort.

They have enough good players to not be bottom 3 bad. Blues currently 7th worst based on points percentage. A rebuild is a long process. Anaheim has gone 6 years, SJ 5 years, Chi 4 years, CBJ 4 years. I don't think any of these 4 are getting in this year. Even if you call Det's rebuild from 2019 for Yzerman, it's at least 5 years and 3 more with Holland.

I think people over estimate the 20 something pick in the draft. Plus non A prospects.

So true. According to this prevailing logic people are arguing 6 teams are contending, 6 are already rebuilding, and 20 should be tearing up their team and trading anything of value starting tomorrow.

Yeah, St. Louis could get a smattering of some good assets, but nothing to sell the farm for either in ways of top 10 picks, or surefire prospects. It would be a long rebuild where you might wake up tomorrow with a crap on ice product saying, "what the heck did we do"?

St. Louis was 6 points out of a spot last year and lost to Vegas 2-1 in one of the last games of the season. They were in it right until the end. Not exactly a team you automatically blow up.

i'm pretty surprised the blues fired bannister. he did a pretty good job there last year imo and that team has maybe the worst defense in the league. i'd even take san jose's group over them

i guess montgomery was likely to be coaching again imminently and they know him from his previous stint there but bannister got a raw deal as a result. i think whoever picks him up next will be pretty happy

Tulsky was calling the shots then?

Tulsky and the others in the analytics department made suggestions to Dundon. Waddell basically followed their direction and used his connections to get the players they wanted at the prices he was told.

It’s why he left. Wanted to actually call the shots. This is also why no one cared that he left. There’s an understanding that Waddell was not the guy making roster decisions.

NYR has a few UFA to be in Lindgren on D, Shesh in Net, and Smith up front. For sure will let Smith walk. Lindgren likely as well. Will sign Shesh IMO.

Trouba 1 more year left but has a MNTC right now. 24/25 can veto half the league. 25/26 can veto only 12 teams.
Kreider 2 more years after this one. Can veto half the league on his MNTC. IN year 5 of his $6.5 mill AAV deal. Been alternating bad year to good year in years 1-4. bad, good, bad, good. currently 9 goals, but no Assists in 19 games.

I mean, they've been trying to move Trouba for a while, haven't they? (I seem to recall them having a trade worked out that he nixed with his clause?)

Kreider is a more surprising one.
They have become a one line one d-pair team. the zone time and shot differential numbers for that 2nd line/2nd d pair are fugly.
