Wrong again, CBJ has all retention spots and cap space to spare, no brainer claim a youngish rhd that could turn into an asset within six months.

Would not be surprised if he's a canuck in that same time-frame given the previous interest and apparent spot available.

Fabbro is marginally younger than Travis Dermott and basically the same level of player getting paid $2.5 million.

It’s a terrible claim. The best-case is that they spend $2 million to get a 5th round pick back in a deadline trade.

Tortz big issue is he has an old school approach to these lessens which embarrasses the players vs a guy like Tocchet or Brind'Amour who are more willing to communicate and go for a walk with the guy and keep it positive and connected.

Calling it now.

Fabbro going to get ample opportunity in CBJ, put up a decent amount of points, and will get flipped at the deadline for a half decent return.

Teams blow their load on depth at the deadline. Especially if they are RHD.

I’m looking at Edmonton specifically or even Toronto.

Fabbro had put up about 15 points/82 over the last 3 seasons in Nashville and is going to get zero PP time on a team with Werenski and Severson. I don’t see where any optimism could come from that he put up points.

You also said he wouldn’t get claimed.

Have to wonder what this means for Jiricek? Potentially taking minutes away from him when he's already struggling to gain a significant role with the team and has been vocally unhappy with his time.

Blue Jackets need to get above the minimum cap threshold very soon. Fabbro makes a lot of sense for them in that regard.

Spare me your excuses this time it's a good claim for bottom teams with available cap space, those were the conditions. Nobody was saying the jets or panthers should claim him.

If he's paid 3mx2 like liljegren it's a bad claim, if he's 29 it's a bad claim, if he's a LHD it's maybe a bad claim etc etc.

You can just say you were wrong same as Elliot and move on, already know you won't, and never do,no matter what you're right and Columbus is STUPID for risking absolutely nothing on a player the Canucks would be claiming if he fit the cap here.

Also Best case is possibly significantly better than your fictional narrative but I won't bother on hypotheticals rn.

The point is teams in a position to roll the dice on a young player, especially a RHS defenseman, while risking nothing but some rich guys cash should do so, and they did.

I think Provorov has been on the right side though so for now it shouldn't be an issue. Gudbranson had shoulder surgery and is out long term

edit: And its probably just a matter of time before they move out Provorov to get more futures. No sense giving him an onerous contract to play behind Werenski

Fabbro hasn’t been struggling because of lack of opportunity. He got an opportunity handed to him on a silver platter because Nashville was starved for RHD and being one of the only young RHD in their system. Basically given a top 4 role there and hasn’t been able to keep it like Carrier. There is a reason his ice time has continuously gone down.

Possibly so...I just look at it as more competition for him and he's already unhappy. They (and Jiricek himself) just seem to be stunting any potential he has...he really should either be lighting it up in the AHL, but since he's complained about it and they are keeping him up on the main roster, they need to be giving him minutes. They're going to end up in a bad situation with him.

He’s not a ‘young player’.

I’ll be wrong if he actually plays well and this works out for CBJ.

The Jiricek situation is weird already, but if they don't send him down now, you wonder if the team is actually concerned he'll demand a trade. This player was drafted to be a top pair defender who plays both special teams; alternating between a luxury suite and bottom pair minutes instead of playing 25 min/night for Cleveland (who are also short RHD) makes no sense.

What is with that 2022 draft class? Jiricek, Gauthier and McGroarty...holy diva alert batman.

fabbro is a great gamble for cbj even though the odds are against him. chances are he's a bottom pair dman but even those are hard to find if you are a bad team like cbj trying to find ufas. he does have a little upside and if not, if you treat him nicely he may extend. why not use your roster and capspace to try and find players?

Trading a 4th and unloading Poolman for Brannstrom who has a buriable contract was a great gamble. At worst we got significant cap relief and a player who would be a massive star at the AHL level, playing in all situations. At best we got a viable NHL defender (i was skeptical and am pleasantly surprised) and significant cap relief. Nothing but upside

The deal for CBJ is not a bad gamble, but Fabbro doesn't skate well enough to play any meaningful role at the NHL level and there is no way that is going to change. Best case scenario is they harvest a pick at the TDL (far from being a sure thing). Worst case scenario it rubs their diva defender the wrong way and he throws a trade tantrum.

Trotz is a joke
Gives out like $85 million in contracts to guys that were clearly washed

“We may have to rebuild soon”

Yeah ok genius

Preds are the third oldest team at average of 30.3 years old. They have a "win now" attitude but have always been a 1st round/2nd rounder loser in the playoffs.

They really have no options, they don't anyone under 25 worth building around.

They had the option of trading Saros and offering to find new homes for Forsberg, Josi and O'Reilly if they didn't want to be part of a full rebuild. They could have had like 10 first round picks over the next few drafts, some quality young prospects and enough cap space to accumulate a dozen or so additional second day wheelspins.

Took them forever to build fan interest, they are not going to rebuild unless they have absolutely zero choice. Business is business, you guys need to stop preaching rebuild at every turn.

One could argue that actually makes them quite easy to evaluate.
Sure, but you'd want a coroner to say more than "bro is dead."

It definitely sounds like half a joke for radio and half a kick to the team's ass. But it's also amateur GM stuff to rate last season as a platform for an upswing after an improbable miracle run.

The team is kinda stuck with an aging ROR and Josi; an LA type of retool that gave them an option to fully rebuild probably would have been smarter.

Should have done that with him last season. More time in the nhl vs ahl in his second pro year.

Reallly should not bring guys up until they are ready. Keep a kid on your roster for most of the season they think they are an nhler.

Of course they should have, but when they did last season, he whined to the press. Someone needs to save this kid from himself and it sure as shit won't be Alan Walsh.

I'm not going to lie, I kind of love seeing these 2022 1st round divas falling on their faces after claiming to be too good for the AHL. It is just such a massive red flag IMO.
