So the guy who ran down the Gaudreaus while driving drunk, decided to plead not guilty?

I mean the plea deal was pretty much that. But the sad thing is that given the way the justice system seems to work he has a chance of getting less than the 35 years offered. His defense team hasn't really done anything yet. As they've said they will try to get some evidence and some of the indictments tossed. Once that stuff is figured out I suspect an improved offer will come his way if the defense is successful and if they aren't well he's a 44 year old alcoholic (presumably) so 35 years is pretty much the same as 90. He doesn't have much to lose in seeing if the deal can get better.

I mentioned I was going to be at the Capitals' home game vs. Edmonton in February. I checked the Caps' schedule -- it's 17 games from now.

And now, with the torrid pace Ovechkin is on (albeit an almost assuredly unsustainable one), I'm feeling like his injury might genuinely have prevented me from being in attendance for either the record-tying or record-breaking goal.

I'm always curious why people seem to feel attendance is so important for these things.

I bet that 90% of Canucks fans who were excited about Bure's first game weren't even at the rink that night as the game wasn't televised and we all had to wait for sportspage to see it.

I just happen to be in Washington that week and so I am going to a game in a new place – don't you think it would be cool to see something like that in person? This is an all-time record that no one ever thought would be broken – no question it would have been special to be there, particularly as an out-of-towner who has never been to a game there before.

It never even occurred to me that Ovechkin would be challenging the record this season at all, so that wasn't a consideration in going to the game. But seeing the pace he's on now, it actually could have happened right around then if he'd stayed healthy.

Now watching Vegas. This team is in a different league and there's really no team out West that can beat them when they are fully healthy. Their entire blueline are so synchronized. Crisp outlet passes, solid stickwork, proper pinches, and insane gap control in their own zone.

It's just not fair.

Vancouver is rapidly losing contact with the top teams in the Western Conference.....short of going on some sort of incredible heater in the last half of the season, it's basically a 'wildcard or bust'.

All the more reason imo to hold on to their picks and plan for the future.....Allvin might tinker around the edges of the current roster, but I just can't see them making the kind of splash they did a year ago before the trade deadline.

It's probable the team hovers around the playoff cut line well into the late stages of the season. But that shouldn't stop them from getting some of their younger kids into extended NHL action. Hopefully Wilander, Elias Pettersson II, Lekkerimaki, Raty and maybe even Kudryavtsev get extended auditions.

It's coming down to a discussion about 'next season' sooner or later.

Depending on who he decides to move, that will also impact the timeline for the team. Plus health of the players. Just a boatload of questions for this season. Yeah, I don't see them getting into the top 3, which isn't a big deal. Can they maintain a WC spot?

Probably a fine. He's also a Dman, who isn't known for rushes. Got by Kulak, but clearly ran out of ice making his move towards the net. Would be considered a hockey play gone wrong. Maybe, if he was a F, they'd view it differently since they are more likely to do that move than a D.
