Patriots/NFL NFL Patriots Off Season

First scenario is an interesting way to address positional risk. You have a college tackle in Campbell who might be an NFL guard, and you have a college guard in Jackson who played pretty well at tackle for half of the season and might be able to do it in the NFL. Do you take both and try to mitigate some risk hoping at least one of them can play tackle? Of course, the downside is that you end up with 2 guards, and with Onwenu already locked in, someone's playing out of position.
I watch a lot of NFL Network & listen to what I consider the best football draft podcasts and overwhelmingly Campbell is thought of as a tackle and likely an outstanding one who’s athleticism rivals or exceeds most edge rushers and he brings a myriad of moves

Felger, Bertrand, Mazz, and Adam Jones are the ones pushing the guard short aligator arms

Bertrand making fun of people’s looks is embarrassing

Jayden Daniels
Bo Nix
Michael Penix Jr
Drake Maye
Caleb Williams

I think someone is reaching for Sanders & Dart after watching those 5 at least show flashes of promise if not outright success. I still say Sanders going in top 6/7

I couldn’t agree more with the bolded. He comes across as a wannabe Felger (pompous).

I’m starting to warm to the idea of taking Campbell at 4 if Carter-Hunter gone. And also using the 2nd rounder for o-line as well

Same ~ after Carter & Hunter they all are in about the same tier: Graham, Jeanty, Walker, Warren, Campbell….

They need a line ~ both Colts T are very good and not as heralded or as athletic or with arm length as long as Campbell

Talk radio is playing up and people biting

We'll see. Since I'm not local anymore, I couldn't tell you what the sports radio stooges are saying, but the national pundits out there, while saying he's a tackle, all seem to hedge their bets. It's not quite the level of guard talk with Skoronski, but it's close, and their athletic testing and measurables are pretty damn similar. It's tough to gamble on that at #4.

If I had to make a prediction on the pick today, I'd guess Campbell. But I wouldn't be remotely surprised if it's August 1st and he's sitting at LG and we've still got a cast of characters rotating through LT.

Here is Jeremiah who is the NFL Network number one draft guy yesterday

Will Campbell
LSU · OT · Junior
Campbell has ideal height, bulk and athleticism for his position. In pass pro, he stays square, bends well and keeps his hands in tight. He will expose his chest at times (due to his lack of ideal length) but he’s able to recover after giving up some initial ground. He can slide and redirect with ease. He flashes the upper-body strength to torque and control defenders. In the run game, he can wash defenders on down blocks and he stays attached to/through the whistle. There's been a lot of talk about Campbell's arm length during the evaluation process, but he had to be pleased they measured 33 inches at LSU's pro day. He is just scratching the surface of his potential and should start at tackle for a decade, provided he stays healthy.

If the Patriots get this offer, I think I am taking it even if Hunter is on the board. I'm torn on Carter.

This is a trade from 2014
  • The Buffalo Bills traded up to the No. 4 overall pick, held by the Cleveland Browns, to draft Sammy Watkins (WR, Clemson).
  • Trade details:
    • Bills received:
      • No. 4 overall pick (Sammy Watkins)
    • Browns received:
      • No. 9 overall pick (used to select Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State)
      • 2015 first-round pick
      • 2015 fourth-round pick

This is what I would be looking at for reference. Move back 5-10 spots. Get an extra 1st round pick next year. Then add one more pick to fine tune for the for the draft value chart vs the 2025 adjusted talent values. Further back we fall the better the second pick would need to be. That second pick, might be this year or next year.

If the price is much lower then that, then Campbell, Jeanty, or the best WR available. I do think it is possible there is another OT they could have higher then Campbell, and that would be fine to, as long as we are not trying to convert another RT to LT.

I think Campbell will be the pick, he's played against the best competition in the SEC and his combine metrics were extremely solid.

I like the idea of the Patriots moving back into the 9-14 range and picking up a 2026 1st round pick. Makes a ton of sense for them.

I think the odds of a team in the 9-14 range offering a 2026 1st to move up to #4 are basically zero.

I’m not sure. Presumably the second best QB is still there. The second best Defensive player and Offensive player is still there. Teams get antsy on draft day. There are teams that need QBs and there are teams that have fallen in love with a single guy.

I’m not sure why we needed to do this as he seems a perfect backup to Maye but good for him and good luck to him.
I saw some discussion online a couple weeks ago that they wanted to send him to a situation where he had an actual future (I believe the Jones/Zappe dynamic is something they wanted to avoid)

I think they should have done better in the deal but it’s whatever I guess

I could end up being wrong here, but...

Joe Milton is very talented, which is different from being good. He's never been a good QB. Ever. Don't get fooled by a couple of preseason appearances or the Week 17 cameo against 3rd stringers from a team that was actively trying to lose.

Agreed, he is a freak athlete. I think he could be a better version of Taysom Hill in New Orleans. Not sure he'll ever be a full-time NFL QB
