I mentioned this before, I don't believe Kreider can be waived. He has a combination of NMC and limited NTC meaning he can be traded to one of the teams not on his 15 team no trade list but he cannot be waived without his permission.
Another 15-20 games like this, and the Rangers will be 'blowing it up'. So a lot more guys than just Kreider will be on the block.
Problem is, they all make so much damn money. It's hard to see how the Canucks could ever fit a lot of these guys under their cap.
Youngish veterans like Filip Chytil, Alexis Lafreniere or K'Andre Miller would look great in a Canuck uniform......but just can't see the Rangers ever giving up on those guys. Vincent Trocheck might help the Canucks down the middle......but he's already 31 and signed for $5.625m into the next century.
What's this all about? Ranger fans all collectively wanted Kakko over Hughes in 2019?

Old guys got old and young guys are too young.
Kraken interest has severely tanked this season. Kinda sad.
Kraken know that they need to get going before the NBA Sonics return. Need to build up that brand loyalty. Vegas Knight have that now and should be ok when the NBA expands there.

Seattle lacks top end talent. Wright and Beniers have disappointed relative to draft position. I do like Beniers though, even if his production at even strength has been middling, and power play production has been absolutely dreadful. Has good defensive numbers at ES are good though. Especially considering he plays for a bad team. He’s probably tracking more as a 2way 2c than a 1c.
Just the way the draft lands. 2021 wasn't a great year. I mean, Beniers and MacTavish were #2 and #3. Didn't have the Offensive upside of a Fantilli/Carlsson for example in 23 draft.
Only so many top end talents, and now so many teams are bad (Chi, SJ) or haven't been able to turn the corner (Ana, Det, Buf). Only 1 or 2 clubs get a top level player in the draft.

I remember Rogers securing that TV deal last decade and knowing it was the end of an era. The golden age of sports broadcasting was the 90s and 2000s. So many fun segments and interactive broadcasts. National TV was always Toronto-centric but SN and TSN did well in their local broadcast coverage.
f***ing Rogers took the cookie cutter approach. Let go of many media personalities and cheaped out on the production.
Yesterday felt like a much needed throwback.

Kind of funny because the SJS rebuild wasn't going anywhere until in almost one fell swoop they land Celebrini/Dickinson/Askarov and every single one of those pieces landing in their lap had a lot of luck around it. Full credit to Grier for the latter two because he had to be proactive and make moves to get them but still super lucky.
San Jose is the team that's stunned me, but in a good way. You watch that team last night, and they're clearly on their way.
They've got some great talent up front; and their blueline is coming along. Both Liljegren and Walman look serviceable. And Sam Dickinson looks like money in the bank. It's certainly more mobile than the collection of lumbering depth d-men the Canucks can trot out there.
And Askarov could morph into a Bobrovsky or a Shesterkin......probably not, but he's a goalie with a lot of talent whom the Preds may have given up on, too early.
So after a couple of totally dismal seasons, the Sharks look like they've got the pieces to make a move. Certainly they're far further ahead than their bottom-feeding cousins, the Blackhawks.

I've said it many times, but in addition to execution successful rebuilds basically require one or two strokes of luck. If Detroit had drafted Hughes instead of Zadina they'd likely be a very good team this year.
Grier also targeted smart UFA signings and nailed some key reclamation projects. He’s done well in bringing in a pretty decent supporting cast even if the results aren’t there.
It's funny to see things like this now when ~1 year ago most (including me) were skeptical they'd ever clear out their long-term cap commitments, which Grier did manage to do.
Askarov only "landed in their lap" because of the assets they got from the Hertl trade.

celebrini is the real deal. for a guy not that big, he has a physical presence that is very rare in an 18 year old skill player.
grier did an amazing job of unloading the old sharks core and has acquired some serviceable players.

In the end it was basically Hertl for Askarov. Sent both firsts they got for him out to land him.
I can’t judge any of the rebuild GMs until they hit that point where they are expected to achieve something (ie PO). Cause like buffalo these are just a collection of players. Real test is building a team. And getting the right pieces.
Like how long can his HC messaged last if they remain a bottom 5 team? On one hand you want the better prospect but the message loses its weight if the results aren’t there to back it up. This season is fine. But can’t be like this for 2 more seasons.
Eh, I don't think Grier is a great GM and SJ would be in a better spot if they had someone else.
