You play that game 10 times and Tampa wins 9 of them. Clearly the better team the majority of the game.

This is hockey though - a game of bounces and inches so it was always possible.

Tampa isn't going to lose to this team in front of their fully packed arena in game 5.

The Habs has had some horseshoes these playoffs...they are 6-1 in overtime now, and Tampa has not won an overtime game.

That 4 mins PP was competely brutal. It looked like Leafs PP which was struggling for the 2nd half of the season. After they killed it, and felt that it's coming.

Yeah, taking their time, playing too loose and not enough urgency...and Habs almost scored a shorty too.

Ok. I did agree that the need for line juggling might have been a factor, but points? I did mention goals, because my understanding is that scoring more goals than the other team is important.

But I'm not sure about the Marner reference. Are you just pointing out that Tavares, like Marner, has a huge contract, produces lots in the regular season, and disappears in the playoffs? I'm not sure that's fair to Marner, who makes less, produces more, and is scored on less.
I was unaware that more goals then other teams means more success I do apologize for that, my mistake.

Your belittling tavares importance even just by his play without how it affects the line juggling. Tavares has produced his entire career and in the playoffs for us he went up against the other teams big boys and gave us a chance when maybe we should not have.
If u want to ignore that even how bad tavares apparently is his absence didn’t have a big impact then good for you. I’m assuming you conclusion is coming from the fact that tavares didn’t produce point wise as much as expected maybe?
Where I wonder what the narrative would have been if it was marner injured and not tavares. Marner has been a ghost in the playoffs specially but if it was him getting knocked out I’m sure you would have agreed that if we had marner the series would have been different, even though his play in playoffs has not been close to good but he produces points in regular season so he would have been a massive absence in your eyes!

Yes, surprising as it may be, the team that scores the most goals in a game is considered the winner.

(Although, judging from many posts, there are a lot of people who seem to think other factors, like shots and chances and 'expected goals' are more important.)

I don't think I'm 'belittling' his value, and I'm very disappointed with Marner's performance in these playoffs. All I'm saying is that I don't see the justification for people to so confidently state that Tavares would have won us the series.

They're likely looking at his abilities and not just +/-.

It gives the Habs more matchup trouble, strengthens our depth, and improves our PP. Pretty sure that weak +/- has a good chunk of EN GA and ignores the powerplay contributions. He's also not matched up against the best line in hockey like he was against the Boston.

He's been a top 2 forward for us in every series he's played IMO. Only one close is Matthews.

Ok, I can understand that
And I never guaranteed we would have won the series even though I still don’t rate montreal really high despite this run, they are playing goon hockey feeding off other teams mistakes.
In the moments when we’re about to eliminate them in overtime like we had his leadership would have def helped and I do think his absence was a huge loss even if people think he should be producing allot more then he does

OMG, they win 1 game against the Bolts now their fans are out in full force on some of Leafs' Facebook groups. The mods have their hands full there.
Even some bandwagon Leaf fans are jumping at our throats if we disrespect "Canada's team" fcol. It's a riot I tellya.

I can't wait for UFA and the Draft to start. At least it is something else to talk about than the constant whining.

The playoffs have also been very boring for the most part. I can see why the NHL is worried about viewership.
