It’s going to be funny to watch the top four have three teams from the Atlantic + Colorado. People want to call the Leafs chokers but it really is the toughest division in hockey.

I don’t think Carolina/Nashville stands a chance against Tampa. Same goes for NYI against Boston and the Jets against the Leafs once we wrap our series.

Carolina is legit. They're dominating the Preds and their stars haven't even got going yet

Who do we play after Winnipeg? Winner of Colorado/Vegas? Or winner of Tampa/Carolina?

They seed all the division winners 1-4 based on points(and winning the division in the regular season doesn't factor in(ie Toronto wouldn't be seeded higher then Vegas even though Leafs won their division in the regular season and Vegas finished 2nd because Vegas has more points)

Most likely scenario is Tampa/Carolina assuming both Nashville and Minnesota don't make the final 4

if the Leafs win and the Canes win, wouldn’t the Leafs play the Canes then? (Because they will be higher seeded than Boston/Islanders)

It really is amazing the job Lou Lam and Trotz have done on the Island.

It would still depend on who wins the West.

If Vegas or Colorado win the west, yes we’d play the winner of Canes vs Bolts.

if Nashville or Minnesota get through, that changes things.

Depends, If Vegas or Colorado win there division yes, if Minnesota does No(leafs would play Minnesota)

Not necessarily.

Minnesota ranks higher then both Boston and NY so they would be ranked 3rd in the scenario both the Leafs(2) and Canes(1) win

For the sake of seeding

Colorado
Vegas
Carolina
Toronto
Tampa
Minnesota
Boston
New York
Nashville
Winnipeg
Montreal

I see, assuming the Avs take the West, they will play either Boston or the Islanders, and the Leafs would get the Canes being the away team or Tampa being the home team.

Most likely yes one of AVs or Vegas will win but never say never. There is also the scenario though Nashville somehow wins there division then Leafs end up playing either Islanders or Boston(assuming Avs/Vegas win as well)

I like Tampa as well but Carolina has had a helluva season so I can't agree that they "don't stand a chance" against them. Same goes for NYI, the matchup against Boston looks to be a close one.

So if we win tonight any idea when game 1 against Winnipeg would start? I'd imagine it would be a quick turnaround.

I agree it will probably be a quick turnaround but I doubt anything will be announced until the matchup is set. But I do wonder how quick is the quickest possible turnaround - if they end it tonight, might it begin Saturday or do they get at least two days off?

the beauty of sport. The Wild are capable of upsetting Vegas and the Wild and Avs are also arch rivals, so anything can happen. Even the Leafs themselves are no lock at all to be in the semis. We will see.

What is crazier to me is that the Isles won their series with Barzal only getting 3 assists, no goals in 6 games.

Shows how importance depth is.

Why do they want to make us miserable while they go on and try on comfort other fan bases?

Washington's cap situation is fun to look at, especially when you consider they'll re-sign Ovi for a few years at least:

Washington Capitals - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

18 players signed for next year already... They won their cup, players are getting paid. It's unlikely that they challenge for another cup, and there isn't much room to change the roster for now... Likely going to just ride into the sunset, where their best players are all in their 30's (or will be soon). A few seasons away from a rebuild likely.

No idea. If the Leafs lost, there would be so much rumour mongering about trading Marner or Nylander.

Depth helps but facing a terrible goalie is better.

Yup, switch the goaltending and the Pens take that series.

Goalies are the QBs of the league but arnt treated that way for some reason and, even worse, they are so voodoo that they can go from elite to crap season to season.

If Leafs and Canes close it out tonight, I think round 2 will start Saturday because the only round 1 game remaining would be Minny vs Vegas which is tomorrow night.
