i don’t want special teams to be rendered non existent. Otherwise, what is the purpose of having a power play or penalty kill?

powerplays are for very obvious calls. Any little bump or little whack is just hockey at any level. Think that's bad go play beer league and you'll be grabbed and slashed more than you would during the NHL playoffs. I honestly don't know how you could be watching the Isles and saying they're dirty and getting away with being dirty. Just because teams finish their checks and get physical doesn't mean they're dirty. I know we're not used to seeing that here but hockey is played like that. This isn't flag football.

The obsession with marginal players because HEART is why in playoff hockey, a team full of Matt Martins will beat a team full of Nathan MacKinnons because the rulebook favors the less talented

The possibility of this no talent no skill Isles team of pluggers and grinders and goons winning the Cup makes me almost want to root for another lockout
You obviously don’t appreciate playoff hockey, or maybe it’s envy? Nothing boring about the playoffs this year, I’m throughly enjoying each series, and so should you if your a hockey fan as opposed to just a Leaf fan, but to each his own.........

I think I may have to quit watching this league if it's a Montreal NYI final.

Toronto would have a tangential connection to that final, in that its the Team the Leafs couldn't beat and collapsed against, and the GM they didn't believe knew what he was doing in terms of building a winner and let go.

PS. However I still think its going to be Tampa Bay vs Vegas when the dust settles. :)

Uncle Leo is still a very effective player and a great motivator. Watching him last night his impact is certainly “beyond the score sheet”. The old guy still has game.
If I’m going to war, I want Clutterbut, Martin, and Uncle Leo in the trench beside me, AM, MM, WN, not so much......

Newsflash: The team with the most talent and skill usually does not win the SC because hockey allows body contact. If it irks you that much, you may want to switch to non contact sport like the women's hockey league or soccer.
I hear rhythmic gymnastics is bitchin?

I personally got tired and bored of the shiny that we saw this season in the North Division. So refreshing watching players put it all on the line to win a hockey game. Players who avoid contact should have chosen baseball or soccer.

True that, after a season of the brand of hockey the Leafs play I get discouraged about hockey, then the playoffs come along and i’m reinspired.

If we get a Habs/Isles final, talent and skill mean nothing

Well it means exactly what a lot of people already know;

"Defense wins Championships".
&

"Good teams are built from the goalie out, through strong defense, and strength down the middle".
&

"In the playoffs Will beats Skill"

This has already been proven by just the Final 4 teams, never mind need that outcome.

Of the 30 highest scoring players during the regular season, only Mark Stone still stands leaving the other 29 top scoring players out already or they were never in the playoffs to start"
&
Of the 4 remaining goalies currently Price, Fleury and Vasilevski are 3 of the 4 highest AAV/paid goalies in the game as you build from the back out.

All the star skilled players with the big fat contracts are playing no part in these playoffs after 2 rounds or 1/2 the way through, but if you invest in strong goaltending and build from the back out then welcome to the final 4 where Will beats Skill.

So for some that believe in these 3 key principles to playoff success, the results of this years playoffs are rather unsurprising.

Islanders have the "Identity" line. We have no identity.

Sure we do, its just not a good nor successful one.

We have an identity of 3 X $11 mil players, and proof positive you can't buy success, and with player greed you won't succeed, as you need to earn it through hard work and effort which is what the "Identity line" epitomizes.
